That’s cute. I think those of us who grew up watching Gerry Anderson’s Supermarionation shows have never really outgrown them.

Here are links to the original opening and closing titles of Fireball XL5.

In the opening title sequence, Steve Zodiac and Venus use their hoverscooters just to board the ship. They can’t walk a couple hundred yards and climb a ladder or two? Lazy puppets!

The real reason, of course, was that it’s damn near impossible to make marionettes walk convincingly. The Supermarionation shows were written around futuristic vehicles so that the puppets could spend most of their time standing or sitting.
