I've been on a big MST3K kick lately, and there's this little gem.

611 Last of the Wild Horses.

Why did I post it here?

Because the episode is a nice little Homage to "Mirror, Mirror." Where Mike is in gold lame and a goatee in Deep 13, evil, and sending movies up to a Dr. Forrester and TV'S Frank on the Satellite of Love.

Boy, do I ever miss MST 3K. :( The day it moved to Sci-Fi after years on Comedy Central was the beginning of the end. They could no longer do regular, non-science fiction/horror movies and that limited the number of films they could make fun of in any given season. It's been close to ten years since the last episode was made, and it's a shame such an awesome show had to wither away in obscurity on the Sci-Fi Channel on Saturday mornings with almost nonexistent ratings.

I'm probably one of many few who actualy prefers the SciFi years to the CC ones. But both have their charms and as a whole it is a great series.

You have, I hope, heard about both RiffTraxx and Cinematic Titanic. (A trailer for the first Cinematic Titanic is up, even.)

SciFi relaxed it's restrictions a bit towards the final season. They were able to do that German (English dubbed) version of Hamlet, a couple shorts, and another Joe Don Baker epic.

The final Comedy Central episode, "Laserblast", featured an encounter with a relative of NOMAD, and the terribly disturbing sight of Mike dressed up as Captain Janeway!

Yes. As well as the film the guys lampooned starring Rue McClanahan for a direct-to-DVD disc. But it's not the same. You can't even find MST3K reruns anywhere anymore.

One of the early avatars I had in the BBS was of Frank and "Torgo the White." Great stuff. I've thought about revisiting that theme in the future once my creepy BK mascot fetish runs its course.

Obviously, my current av is from the very last scene in the series. I loved it, the idea that Mike and the Bots in their post-SOL "lives" decide to do the thing they hated doing most over the last few years- sit around and watch cheesy movies!

Yeah, the final episode of the series was poignant and hilarious. A real standout.

Indeed. Not many series manage to go out on such a note that mostly leaves the characters where you want them. MST's ending just fits. Even more so since Kevin, Bill, and Mike are doing Rifftrax now. :)

But, on topic and to this forum, I love the Mirror, Mirror spoof/homage in 611. I kind of wish a "better" movie to riff had been picked. Still a nice episode, one of many homages and nods to Trek MST3K did.

I still have nightmares of Mike dressed as Capt. Janeway.

:scream:

Yeah, Mike Nelson in a wig and drag is enough to make ME want to swallow a bucket full of Oxycontins...that's for sure.
