Is there any place where I can find out exactly what happened to Enterpriser and why he was banned? I hear lots of people mention it throughout the board, but I never run across even a summary of happened, so I'm quite curious.
It started out with him becoming your run of the mill high-post-count controversial poster(/troll) - see TNZ for many examples of same. Essentially he then got a little creepy, and did some stalker-ish things that bordered on real-life criminal. hence the permaban. Along with another poster at a later date who did something similar, tis a good way to trip a seriously permanent permaban. permanent with extreme prejudice you might say.
Well, it's a much longer story than this.
Put it this way folks:
What To Do About Enterpriser was THE main topic in the BR for upwards of 3 years.
We tried reasoning with him on several occasions...and he would promise to change. Then, two weeks later would be doing the exact same thing as he was before.
We tried making spamming rules designed specifically to cut down on his complete monopolization of TNZ...he would find a way around them or through them. Once when we limited the number of new threads you could start in a 24 hour period to 5, he took up posting two topics per thread so that he could get in 10 topics in 24 hours. That sort of thing.
Everything was a big game, and everyone got so tired of it that he got temporary bans and threats of permanban.
Then he got into it with another poster and claimed to have followed this poster around IRL, offering details of their personal lives on one occasion. And I believe he also tried to fuck with this person's real-life livelihood.
Still he did not get permanbanned for good, but was given still MORE chances.
Put it this way - NO ONE in the history of this board (and I've been in the BR over 5 years...so I say this with some degree of confidence) has gotten more chances than Enterpriser got before he got permabanned.
NO ONE.
We tried everything to get him to sort himself out. Friendlies, warnings, temporary bans, emails, PMs. Even
Christian tried to reason with him at least twice that I recall.
Believe me - no 5 posters
combined have had more attention paid to them by the staff...and have been given more chances to reform.
On today's TrekBBS, he'd have been banned alot faster than he was back then...but alot of this took place when
Lisa was still boss and the TNZ issues were really in critical shape...and so every consideration was given to the guy. I don't know how many man-hours were expended in thread after thread about him in the BR - evaluating the issues, making sure he was being treated fairly, etc. There wasn't a mod on this board at that time who didn't regularly toss in their 2 cents about his progress, suggestions for how we could get him to cooperate, rules we could make to get him to play nice...you name it.
He got more due process than a death row inmate.
Seriously.
Believe me - no one around here needs to feel sorry for
Enterpriser. I can't think of a single thing that we didn't do to try and save him - most things we tried several times.
He has no one to blame but himself. No one.
did that happen!! Who made him a mod and what had they been smoking that day?
