I'm going for UHURA!!

Let us never--and I mean never--forget William Ware Theiss and his Theory of Titilation: if you show a part of a woman's body we are not used to seeing or give the empty promise that we can see more if, I dunno, the dress were to say slip off or we were to turn our heads a certain way, we get more of an erotic charge. He was right about that.
On the old Dick Van Dyke show from the early 1960s, network censors were careful not to have Mary Tyler Moore's skirts "cup" too much -- which is when the back of the skirt wraps too far under the curves of the rear end.

Of course she could wear capri pants that showed far more of the shape of the ass, but there is something more "erotic" (and hence a no-no in 1962) about a "cupping" skirt.

I can't believe that people (men) would go to see the movie just for some titties...are you guys really that lame (say no)???
No. I certainly don't mind seeing breasts, especially if they're nice breasts, but I would never go to a movie to specifically see them. After, this is what porn is for. ;)

I see thought with the ads that the attitude that only horny teenaged boys watch sci-fi us still firmly in place.

Thank you..this is the point I was trying to make and for the record I have no problem with any SEX in TREK...then or now, as long as it's relevant.

No, I'm not going for Uhura. I would consider going for Jennifer Morrison though...:p

But seriously, seeing tits and ass is a nice bonus in a movie (don't care if it serves the plot or not) but I never go to see a movie just for that.

That's what the internet or rental dvd's are for.

I can't see going to the movie just for the pretty girls--not even Bond movies work that way--but they sure do sweeten the deal.

Nichelle wasn't as much of a hottie and there weren't any overt soft porn scenes. Yep, the TOS was a pile of unappealing crap.

Well...they think otherwise. They think they will attract more people by doing this kind of PR. I think they are going to do just that. I mean, look at NEMESIS and INSURRECTION. What normal teenager boy would have gone to see those two turds based on the trailers we got. Those movies probably had large repeat viewings from Liza Minelli crowd..not good prospects for $$$

Rob
So you're agreeing with me that the prevailing attitude in Hollywood is that only horny teenaged boys watch sci-fi?

On another note, are people really complaining that a movie (loosely) based on TOS is using sex as a selling point? Really? Have any of you guys ever watched the show?
And I've bitched plenty about that before, as well as the same type of stuff that was done on the other shows. The catsuits, for example. Certainly there's a place for adult themes, but one would hope they'd be more mature about it. Well, I would hope, anyway.
