I'm bragging!

My 5-year-old daughter just won a writing contest. It's being given by the local chapter of an international educators organization. She won in the category of Kindergarteners and First Graders. She wrote about what she'd like to talk about if she could have dinner with President Obama. She'll win a $100 savings bond, and read her essay at a dinner (comped for her and my wife and myself). But for me, the prizes are irrelevant. It's nice to see how well she's learning, and how her future can be unlimited, if she keeps up the hard work and dedication to her education.
Basically, I'm a proud dad! :techman:

Congratulations to your daughter. I hope she keeps up with the writing. :bolian:

Can you get her permission to Post the essay?

Principle Skinner: Come on Edna, we both know these children have no futures!
Prove me wrong kids, prove me wrong.

But seriously, good on you and your family!

That's wonderful, congratulations to her. :) Nothing wrong with being a proud pop, especially when you child succeeds in intellectual pursuits. Would she mind if we got to read some or all of it?

^^^^I'll have to ask her. Then I might just post it anyway, since she's too young to hire a lawyer. But in the meantime, she mentioned she's want the president to help support a local pet rescue in our area, because they help dogs and cats, give poor people jobs, and stop wars.

Congrats, Dad! It's great that she's showing a talent for writing at such an early.

But, be careful, because things are liable to wind up in the tell-all book she writes about you later. ;)

And I thought I was a cynic!

Nah, proud, card-carrying cynic since 1987, right here.

Hey.:bolian:

I'd be a cynic except it's obvious that cynicism sold out years ago.

Anyhoo, congratulations sbk! May she have a bright and prosperous future ahead! :D

Here's a copy of her essay. Remember, she's only 5 (6 April 1). It's all her own words, but my wife helped her organize, which is allowed in the contest:

If I had lunch with the president, I would talk to him about many important things. The first thing I would talk to President Obama about is giving money to make more pet rescues, like Pet Orphans. They save animals and help them get spayed and neutered, so there are not as many homeless animals.
The second thing I would talk to President Obama about is making more jobs for the poor people. If they had jobs, they would not live on the street, and they would be able to buy food, and a house for their children.
The third thing I would want President Obama to do is help stop all the wars in the world. So many people get killed in these wars, and then their families are very sad. Sometimes children even lose their parents. If the president could help with these problems, then the world would be a better place.
