I'm a bit scared...

Following the raids on terror suspects last night near where I live, the first item on the UK BBC news was that they fear an attack in Manchester or the Trafford Centre imminently - perhaps this weekend.

I only missed the last bomb in Manchester by chance because the weather was good and now I work right in the centre - as do most of my friends. I'm not sure I want to go to work this weekend now!

You're probably better off going about your regular business. Stay home and a plane is likely to crash into your house or something... that would be my luck anyway.

The plane crashing into my house was the second story in the news!

It was a bit worrying though having the main story in the news being the biggest raid since the London bombings discovering the possibility of the two largest shopping centres near me being bombed this weekend.

That said I will still be working this weekend.

I agree with Mr B that you are probably better off just operating like usual. I can't even imagine how nerve-wracking it would be to be near or work in a location where they were expecting an incident, but sitting at home waiting for it to happen won't do you any good either. Just be vigilant about anything that seems unusual.

I hope nothing actually happens! :)

I hope nothing happens too, they've only just finished rebuilding Manchester from the last bomb.

I think you might be over reacting a bit. There's better odds of an asteroid striking the Earth and wiping out half the European continent this weekend IMO.

I'm hardly reacting at all, though you'll look pretty silly if I'm blown to bits this weekend, thats for sure! lol

Given these raids, the odds are that they've disrupted whatever plans might have been in progress. But good luck. I hope nothing happens.

I'm not letting it affect my plans, and I don't think you should either. Fuck the terrorists.

I heard about that on the news and i immediately thought of you. Please be careful. If you get blown up i will go over there and kick your ass, dammit. :p

Go about your business would be my advice but be alert. I was in Exeter last summer when they bombed us. That was a disturbing experience. But people are right, not going about your life means that they have won in some respect.

Well we seem not to have been blown up so far, I will go to the Trafford centre later and buy some Easter Eggs.

It's not going to stop me doing anything, but its not nice thinking that something could happen.

Exactly. Me and my friends are still going into Manchester centre tomorrow to catch a film and get some food. If something happens, then it happens, but I ain't letting anyone scare me into staying at home. As I said, fuck the terrorists.

Most "terrorists" aren't really terrorists at all, just stupid kids who think they're doing a service to their country/religion by blowing some stuff up (or secret service guys pretending to be terrorists for some kind of big coverup). True terrorists don't actually bother bombing anything, they just make threats and act suspicious and they get a shorter prison sentence as a result. That's alot more scary than some pitiful kids going "OH LOL WE HAVE A BOMB AND WE'RE TOTALLY GONNA USE IT ON YOU FOR SURE".

At this point I'd normally start arguing about why it's the fault of the government for opening the proverbial floodgates to immigrants. Most of these wannabe "terrorists" are muslims and most muslims in this country are descendants of immigrants, but I don't really think what I've got to say about them is really appropriate for these forums.

Anyway, don't let some silly pyromaniac kids who think they're clever for building badly made bombs that probably don't even detonate scare you into staying indoors, or they really are terrorists.

This is so absolutely offensive. It is a fact that most nations are made up of immigrants of one sort or another, it's only a matter of how far back in history you look. One of the most ignorant posts I've read in a long time. Wow.

It wasn't intended to come out that way, I didn't intend it to be a jab at either muslims or immigrants. Immigration is fine, muslims are fine (I don't hold religious people in very high regard, but I don't have a particular prejudice against muslims). It's a fact that most of the people being arrested for "terrorism", at least those reported in the media, are islamic. It's also a fact that most of those people in this country descended from immigrants. I didn't mean it to read as "all immigrants are terrorists" or "all muslims are terrorists" as that would be ignorant. I can agree that countries are made up of immigrants and descendants of immigrants, but honestly the immigration rates in England are out of control. You don't need to let anyone in, other countries have tighter policies on immigration and are all the better as a result. I don't want to dig myself a deeper hole, so I'll leave it at that.
