Have been wondering this since episode 1. Discovery, as many have called it, is the first "Peak TV" Star Trek show, existing in, also what many have called, a new Golden Age of Television, the best we've ever had it. Two other shows that are often called "peak TV" are Breaking Bad & Game Of Thrones.

We're all Trek fans here, well, I hope so at least, but we also love other things. Other genre shows. And Game Of Thrones is the big one. It's infected popular culture. People you would never think would ever consider a swords & horses & dragons TV show now love that stuff. It's ridiculously popular worldwide. Peak TV.

Very curious, anecdotally of course, how many Trek fans here have experienced Game Of Thrones as well.

If you are a fan of Discovery, did you watch Game Of Thrones before this?

So is the question "did you watch" or "do you love"? I think there may be a wide gap.

Yes - Game of Thrones is all kinds of awesome. I don't usually like Fantasy, but this series transcends that. I love Discovery too, but it's yet to match GOT.

GoT is on HBO. I don't have HBO, therefore I don't watch GoT. It's mostly a money thing, but I'm also not that much into fantasy. And with all the pervasive discussion *everywhere*, it wouldn't really be worth it to watch it later, just like I can't watch a football game that isn't live.

Do I watch GoT? Yes, because my wife does and it is a show we can watch together. Do I enjoy GoT? It's Ok. It isn't my favorite. I sat out Season 5 due to the abhorrent treatment of women (Sansa and later Shireen. Since I became a Dad I just can not handle the abuse of little girls in fiction. Too close to home). Also, I have always preferred Science Fiction to Fantasy. I only thought the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit series was OK. But I love Discovery.

Yes, and Yes.

That said, the "MA" in GOT is primarily for the Tits, Ass, and Beefcake (read: Nudity) - and in the GOT cultures as depicted, hard core swearing/cussing makes much more sense then in any Star Trek situation for the most part.

I confess I've never seen GOT. Not a matter of taste; I just don't get HBO and have never gotten around to catching up with the show on DVD. There's simply too much quality TV out there for one person to watch. Hell, I can't even keep up with all the stuff on regular cable, let alone all the premium channels and streaming services.

I've never read the books either, although I really Martin's earlier horror stuff, like Fevre Dream and The Skin Trade.

Yes to both, but I'd actually read at least the first book of Game of Thrones books before the series started. Someone had mentioned it on a forum due to a game we both enjoyed and thought I might enjoy it so I gave the books ago.
When I heard the series was being made, I tuned in.
(I do have Fevre Dream on the list to read)

I'm also enjoying Discovery.

Big Discovery fan. I'v only seen bits and pieces of GoT while channel surfing. Nothing I'v seen of GoT has grabbed me, yet. Not a big sword and sandals fan.
