If you went back to 2018 and told everyone about today?

I was just thinking this while chatting to people. What would people make of us if we went back to 2018 and told everyone what the last 2 years has been like and what has happened in the world with things like covid and such do you think they'd take any of it seriously?

That there would be a global pandemic? I think most would be open to that possibility.

The rest though ... I don't think after you'd terrified our past selves with the details of COVID that they'd believe we'd be in an ongoing battle with countless millions who have determined their vague, poorly defined concerns over the potential long-term effects of a life saving vaccine are of greater concern than the immediate thing that could kill them.

Fair point, what if we extended that window to 2015, I wonder what they'd think?

In the UK it would have been hard to believe a few years ago that the global lockdown of March 2020 was coming. I had seen news reports of places like China where facemasks have been commonplace for years but never thought something like that could affect Britain in the way it did. I can't see myself going out to a public venue for a long time after last weekend. I met some friends last Saturday and we ended up in a packed hall watching a live band and no-one, including us were wearing masks. First time I've been out in almost two years and I caught a nasty bug which wasn't Covid but it was still unlike any cough I've had before. No other cold symptoms just a nasty cough and I would feel the urge to cough to loosen up the mucus in my lungs and when I tried to breath in to keep coughing my airways were partially blocked because of the mucus so I would then innately bend over and start hacking it up. Sorry, it's not a very nice description but it was horrendous and I'm so glad it only lasted a few days of sweating it out in bed. I'm still coughing and feel like a smoker each morning but it's not as bad as it was. Stay safe everyone.

I would warn the government about that lab in Wuhan and you better tighten up security or stop doing what your doing because some butterfingers over their is going fuck up and let a deadly vaccine out that ravages the world. Hopefully they would do something but even a small change would likely be enough to alter the flow of time prevent the virus out thus saving the people of this world though I guess my world would be the same since you can't alter the past of your timeline due to Grandfather Paradox.

I would then try and bring people over to live in this new world on the assumption it's a better one but even that's not a lock because no Covid means Trump likely wins a second term so who knows what new problems would be created in this new timeline.

Julie, is that you?? (OK, it's not 2018, but...)

do you think they'd take any of it seriously?

If you were somehow actually able to go back in time and just started telling people about the last couple years... they would think you were either crazy or a liar, just the same as you would think about someone who stopped you on the street and said they were visiting from 2025.

Just be very careful that you are actually COVID-free before you go back, or you risk being a new "patient zero" and starting the pandemic a couple of years earlier.

It was an eerie time to see all the departments in the open plan office I worked at slowly start working from home early March 2020 and the place becoming emptier as the news of covid was becoming more and more frequent. People taking chairs and monitors to set up home offices until the place looked decimated and my team was the last to be told we would start working from home. I'll never forget that meeting because I knew it was the end of an era. I've never been a work from home kind of person so it was the start of the end. Seven years at the same desk in the same office working with a great bunch of people. I even taught my desk neighbour foosball and he went on to become one of the best players. I was so proud but very frustrated when I could no longer beat him. They were a bunch of IT nerds but like Tim says in The Office when you're walking around on the same bit of carpet for 8 hours a day with someone you grow to care for them no matter how annoying they might be. I miss that. But I have a lot to be thankful for so I am not complaining.

I would probably tell myself, That figures.

However, if I had gone back from now, after the apparent worst of it, I'd also need to tell myself that it had not been too bad for us. Just follow the rules and get vaxxed, and you'll be ok. Oh, and stock up on disinfecting spray, hand sanitizer, alcohol and TP.

I've just assumed I've been living in a bizarre farce that started with Bowie dying. This is the mirror universe's pathetic next-door universe, the one that doesn't even get a name. But we're stuck here.

I'd probably have thought it was a poor attempt at writing a sad commentary on modern life, if someone had told me what the world would be like, now.

Imagine going back to 2015 and telling them Donald Trump would be president.

Trump becoming President again wouldn't be all bad if you play it right. You could win lots of money betting on him to win. Today you could be living in a mansion built on a Hawaiian beach. Private helicopters and jets and maybe pay Musk some money to make you a flying car that looks like it comes from Blade Runner. Have Weird Al perform at all your birthday parties.

That was my point. I didn't favor or oppose him in either the 2016 or 2020 elections; I just figured that it was nuts that he won.

I'd tell 38-year-old me that yes, my BF and I are lasting. I'd also tell myself to lay off the diet soda as my co-teacher is right , and that it would cause me over $7000 worth of grief (January 12th-16th of 2021 was... pricey). And then I'd make sure past me buys masks before things go bonkers. "If you thought Donald was bad before, past me, he's far worse than you imagined. And as you did in 2016, you will vote for another Democrat, one that you weren't thrilled with initially, but that you realized is a decent man. Do not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. The political party that you once knew is dead. Grandpa was right to fear Donald." My past self would be stunned at my outright disgust, but I'd remind us of how disgusted we were with the Wellstone funeral in 2004. "Trust me, past me, Donald has made that look like a hissy fit."

"Explaining one year later" goes after the the first one. A year later, she goes back to just after her first visitation.

Hokey shite!

Part 2 is topical.

"Betty white is trending... For entirely no reason. She's alright."
