Unless your original comment was meant to be ironic, I find it hard to believe that the Holy Spirit — or any other deity, for that matter — is responsible for getting this movie made. God is a busy man, and I hope He'd have more important things to work on than making sure there's a new Star Trek film in theaters.
Yes, Paramount was ready to do a new Trek movie. And JJ was kind of "hot" at the time. He obviously influenced the story choice as well. So, I think even without JJ we would of gotten another Trek film. But of course, it would be a very different movie than the one we will get in May 2009.
