Re: If this movie is successful, will TNG & others be forgot
Will TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT be forgotten?
Was TOS/TAS forgotten?
All have their fans, all will find their new audiences in the future, all will survive to some degree. What remains to be seen is whether this film will be memorable, or whether it will be written off as an abortive attempt to revive Trek right before it begins its next long sleep.
Consider... though I believe this film will be quality stuff, it's possible it will be so bad (think The Hitch-hiker's Guide To The Galaxy movie bad) that it is received with all the vitriol of VOY or ENT at their worst. This film could be the salvation of the franchise, or its last shove into cryogenic freeze for a couple decades.
The one thing I am sure it will not do, despite the apparent hopes of some, is wipe everything that preceded it off the map. Canonical or not, reboot or not, its existence will be reconciled by the fans into the vast and convoluted universe that is Trek fiction, and it wil become a part of - but never a replacement for - the vast whole that includes all previous incarnations.
