If they did more 24th Century Trek of prime Trek.............

Wouldn't be surprised if this was already posted but if they did revisit original Trek I take it that Romulus is destroyed and there are few Romulans left. So any prospect of them being an ally or enemy from now on is finished.

What would happen with Romulan space and the Neutral Zone now though, does it get divided up between the neighbouring powers or something.

The Romulan Star Empire was almost as big as the Federation. Thus, you can assume they had at least a hundred subject worlds and a few thousand Romulan colonies. As such I hardly believe the loss of one solar system will affect the Star Empire much, at least, not for long. Certainly not enough to make them an endangered species. It might set back their military for a while, though, since it was mentioned Remus was one of the biggest Dilithium mines in the Star Empire.

I don't know about all of you, but that's some prime area of space we're talking about here. I'm thinking housing development.

I think we would see remaining Romulan factions trying to vie for power over the future of the Empire. We may also see more aggression towards the Federation while there is this struggle taking place amongst the remaining Romulans. Some Romulan factions may actually want an alliance or to join with the Federation. This split further causing discord between Rumulan groups.

That, to me, would make quite an interesting movie, maybe somewhere down the road (later on, since we've done Romulans in the last couple movies).

Maybe even adapt that John Meredyth Lucas script from Phase II, "Kitumba", into a Romulan story instead of Klingon.

What everyone seems to be missing is that it wasn't necessarily Romulus' star which exploded. In fact, it wouldn't make sense for it to be that one, since a star near supernova probably wouldn't support life.

Supernovas are big. They'll affect everything within quite a few light-years. (Spock said, with only a slight exaggeration, that it "threatened the galaxy".) In all probability, the Vulcan Science Academy was working on Red Matter for years from the time the SN first occurred until the time it would threaten Romulus directly.

What this means is that other parts of the wave-front may still threaten other Romulan planets. Perhaps not with full destruction, but with widespread devastation. That's a story to be told.

Of course, it would be fairly similar to the Genesis Wave books in many ways, so a new angle would need to be found to keep it interesting.

Speaking of books I imagine it would prompt a bunch of new novels about what happens with the Romulans from now on.

And I wouldn't be a surprise if there's a novel involving the 2 realities in a crossover of some sort!
