If there is another earth like ours?

steve1961

Lieutenant
What would you like to see in that planet?

Id like to see that planet twice a big as earth.

The average surface temperature of that planet is about 69 degrees North and South Poles Warmest is -10 Coldest -50 The equator is about around 145 degrees.

Mostly a tropical planet,,With Tropical plants and trees not very many storms And not very cold in winter time. Weather rains like Misty like all day but not real downpours like a hard shower and some sunny days.

We can grow food and fruits like 9 months in most places and near the equator giow food and fruits year round.

Time is 48 Hours a day 24 night 24 Daylight 48 time zones. Planet orbits 372 days a year around the sun.

This is my idea of a new earth.

Gotta have bucket seats.

I'd want it to be 2013 there already. I'm tired of waiting for things that will have happened by then.

wow twice Earth gravity, that will certainly be.............tiring. I mean if it's going to be anything Earth like it would surely be of the same density and material make-up.

Look Popluation is getting to be a problem today. It took over a million years to get 6 Billion people on planet earth. So if we go to a bigger earth it can hold up to 18 billion people and that will take 3 Billion years. But we must have laws on new earth. Only 2 children per couple so it might get 18 billion in 4 million years.

What kind of degrees? 'Cause if that's temperature you're talking about, it's sounding VERY inhospitable!

People will suffer health problems on a planet twice Earths gravity. Your heart is designed to pump blood around your body in Earth gravity, double the gravity and the heart has to work twice as hard. People will end up having cardiac arrests.

Twice as big doesn't necessarily mean twice the gravity. For two massive spheres (OK, oblate spheroids :p) of rock, one with twice the radius as the other, to have the same surface gravity, the larger rock would need a mass approximately four times a large as the smaller one, as a given surface gravity is directly proportional to the mass (bigger mass, greater gravitational force at the surface, or sea level) of your planet, while the larger it is for a fixed mass, the lower the gravity (the surface gravity is inversely proportional to the radius squared).

Take into account other materials with varying density (atmosphere, surface liquids such as seawater, the depth and composition of the crust, mantle and core, etc.) and it is entirely feasible for a planet with twice the surface area of Earth to have the same gravity at sea level.

Of course, if it is just like Earth, not only does it need to exist ion the habitable zone of a star system and be subjected to ideal (non-dangerous) gravitational tidal forces from the star and other planets around it, but it should also have an ideal tilt and sidereal period to allow for suitable climates, weather patterns and seasons to develop along similar lines to Earth. An orbiting moon would help a lot to exert the tidal forces for Earth-like wildlife to set its biological watches to.

We just need to find this theoretical planet. :)

Human population growth isn't linear. Much of that six billion has been in the last century.

Even with technological advancements getting people off Earth will continue to be expensive. You're not going to achieve anything concerning population pressure on Earth with emigration. The achievement would be increasing the specie's range so there would still be humans on that other planet if some horrible disaster like an asteroid hit or radiation pulse from a quasar killed everyone on Earth.

I don't know how to make the calculations, but I suspect a planet twice Earth's diameter will have eight times Earth's mass and surface gravity in Excess of four times what we're experiencing.

I referred to these calculations when making my estimates on the post above. I'm no astrophysicist but it's the closest I could manage.

Yeah, a planet would only have twice the gravity of Earth if the product of its radius and density equalled twice the products of Earth's radius and density.

Due to the incompressibility the materials involved, most super-Earths will be somewhat larger, and hence not have a surface gravity scalable based on their number of Earth masses alone.
