If the toy sales are any indication...

...this movie looks to be a hit or at least have a huge opening weekend (which is really the most important thing given how movies are released and the secondary DVD market these days).

In this very unscientific and completely speculative conclusion I give you only this piece of evidence: Sunday, Toys R Us and Target had full displays of the new ST toys. Today, decimated.

Somebody out there is foaming at the mouth for this new ST ( like me) and has already invested in the toys.

the local toys r us here had tons of new trek stuff last week and still have plenty. oddly enough, last week they also had a healthy amount of toys from tos and guess what? now they are all gone! this movie may be sparking a new interest in the original series. that would be great.

A portent of things to come, I hope...

You don't think that the Trek Fanboy Community raided the Toys R' Us stores and glommed all the collectibles from the kids, do you?

I mean, it's the kind of thing they would do so they could drive up the price, then turn around and make a killing in the Dealers' Room.

I'm an Anime Fan. I know how this shit works.

SPIKE: "Damn, no phasers at this Toys R' Us. The Fanboys must have worked this place over...."

FAYE: "Geez, I just wanted some of that cheap Genki perfume...."

JET: "And you won't find any Trek chachkies, anywhere. Word on the street is that the Red Dragons have been paying the Fanboys to buy up the merchandise and resell it at Trek Conventions for triple the price to the suckers."

EDWARD: "OTAKU! SUCKERS!!!! OTAKU! OTAKU!"

JET: "What's worse is that the Dragons get the ISSP and Paramount to look the otherway. Damn shame. It's gotten so that a man can't even by a bottle of Tiberius anymore..."

EIN: "ARF!!"

SPIKE: "Don't they have, like, souveneir Trek smokes or bottled liquor...."

I went to Wal Mart yesterday and saw the star trek toys. From what i can tell, no one is buying them, Seems full. Of course, they could of just stocked them. Anyway while i was down there, two kids were looking at the star wars toys, which was next to the trek toys. They didn't seem to interested in the trek toys. Hopefully that doesn't mean anything tho.

The more important question is this: Do the new action figures stay true to the spirit of the original action figures?

All I have is the 3 3/4" Kirk and Spock (so far) and I'd have to say they look as much like Pine and Quinto as the slightly larger TOS ones looked like Shatner and Nimoy.

It's way too soon for this kind of discussion. Firstly, most of the sales so far will have been to collectors/fans. Wait till the kids actually get to see the film - then we'll be able to judge the success of the line.

I suspect it will do very well.

Well, here at my local Pensacola Toys R Us, they had 5 ships on Sunday morning. I got one, and told my uncle about them... He got there about 3 hours after me, and got the last one. :) The ships seem to be going faster than the action figures are...

I was at a Target in NJ near the outerbridge crossing (so lots of new yorkers hit this mini mall as well)

There was nothing but a bunch of phasers communicators and little figures left.

One whole peg of figures was gone, all of the 6 inchers where gone, only one ship out of a original 8 was left, and 2 transporters and no bridge sets where left.

I was going to pick up the Enterprise but I am pretty broke till May thanks to dropping 1300 on taxes this year, hopefully there will be some left.

Oh and I went to pick up my May 7th tickets that day too. As I am picking them up, at least 3 groups of people stopped to look at the Trek stuff.
