What if 2009 Trek had been done in TOS? – a two parter like ‘The Menagerie’ as if it were made in 1967 season 2 with TOS cast and someone like Gene Hackman as Nero (when Hackman was doing tv guest starring like The Invaders). Narada would be a minimalist set and the Ent bridge would look similar to how it normally did in TOS except with a few differences – maybe redressed so it was more like The Cage/Where No Man (and like the way the Ent D was different in Yesterdays Enterprise), uniforms are similar but different insignias etc – maybe even the Cage/WNMHGB style (again like uniform changes in YE)

    Titled – ‘Parallel’ :

Flashfoward to season 2 of TOS era (2267):
Kirk (Shatner) is a lowly Lt based in Iowa and meets Uhura (Nichols) in a bar – similar to the bar scene in ‘Court Martial’ or ‘Trouble with Tribbles.’ Beat up Kirk encounters Captain Pike (Jeff Hunter) of the brand new Enterprise. Tells him to shape up his fathers death saved 800 lives etc. Kirk looks longingly at the newly built Enterprise (matte painting like Rigel VII)

Hitches a ride on the shuttle and meets the newly assigned Bones (Kelly) then follows pretty much the same (no 3 year gap or Kobiashi Maru test)… although instead of the space jump onto the drill the landing party just go over to the narada….Pike is captured, Kirk ends up on Delta Vega (via a transporter malfuntion), vulcan is destroyed and acting captain Spock is killed!

    TO BE CONTINUED….

Ep 2 Teaser would kick off with Kirk encountering Spock ‘Prime’ on Delta Vega (DV is desert like in ‘Where No Man’). in a similar way to Picard encountering Spock at end of Unification 1

    Opening Credits

We find out this Spock is from season 2 era TOS – so is same age as alternate Spock – (no need for Spock and Nero to be from 24th century) spock and the NCC-1701 were on a mission to help save Romulus when they were attacked by nero (who wanted the red matter to help save Romulus himself fearing the Federation wouldn’t do it). The Ent was disabled in the resulting nova and both it and romulus were destroyed. Both spocks shuttle and neros ship were pulled through the black hole – Nero emerging 34 years earlier…and spock just a day or so ago in the new alternate timeline…

Continues similar throughout finding Scotty (Doohan) right to the end with alternate Kirk and Spock Prime teaming up saving Pike and earth…but destroying the narada in the blackhole results in the debris ending up at the start destroying the just emerging narada in 2233..thus the Kelvin survives and just monitors the strange anomaly and capturing data that will be vital for starfleet in dealing with strange nova like anomalies….we go back to 2267 and the future is set back to normal..(like ‘Yesterdays Enterprise’) – with Starfleet having dealt with the hobus supernova way before it becomes deadly to Romulus (due to the info gathered by the Kelvin)

last scene would be something like season 2 Kirk Prime in his quarters sensing something isn’t quite right

Gets up and looks at a photo of his recently deceased pop..Spock enters and they share a moment trying to recall something..but kirk cant quite place it (although Spock knows)

After just finishing reading These Are The Voyages there's no way the story in JJ's film would have been filmed as is. Despite the pressures they were under the creative team behind TOS were obviously are lot more talented than those who cobbled ST09 and STID together. There is so much convoluted logic and nonsense in those films it's disgraceful. Additionally Roddenberry and the rest (including the cast) would have balked at seeing their characters so out of character.

Furthermore Robert Justman would have had an aneurism over all the proposed f/x, extra sets, miniatures and the rest. It would have blown TOS' for the season if not bankrupt Desilu outright. So essentially the story doesn't get made.

No matter how fantastic their stories might have seemed the original creative team did strive for a sense of credibility and consistency.

Harlan Ellison and other writers were far more talented than JJ's writers and they couldn't get their original story pitches accepted as is.

It looks like the Phase II fan film people are attempting a TOS version of Kirk's cadet days. It looks rather painful, to be honest.

I am an admitted sucker for this shit... but I think it looks awesome!

That dude playing Finnegan is killing it! And I don't know how they conned Colin Cunningham into playing Pike, but I love him!

No kidding. I've watched a number of the Phase II films and they just don't click for me.

The acting can be all over the map, from bad amateur to near professional. The guy who play McCoy is the former.

Really? I didn't buy him at all. And I really can't buy Cauley as Kirk.

Former, meaning he's one of the bad amateurs. Cauley is pretty bad as Kirk.
