If Nick Meyer started from scratch...

Nick Meyer was forced to make do with the existing Enterprise model and sets from The Motion Picture when he made Wrath of Khan. Meyer reimagined the Trekverse a little, making it somewhat darker, lower tech and more militaristic. But what would Wrath of Khan look like in a world without TMP, if Meyer had started from scratch? What might the Enterprise look like, inside and out?

Given his inclination was towards "Horatio Hornblower in Outer Space", and that even the monster maroon uniforms nod towards the British navy in the Eighteenth century, I'm imagining a version of the Enterprise with lots of faux-wood panelling interiors.

And we wouldn't have had the cadet/noncom uniforms that were just dyed versions of the TMP uniforms.

He'd probably approve of phase cannons. Especially if, in order to fire them, they had to be wheeled over to the nearest porthole and massively recoiled after each discharge.
