IDW's "Movie Omnibus"

Trek Survivor

So I see that, well over a year after it was originally scheduled, IDW are finally releasing the "Movie Omnibus" collection, that includes the adaptations of Movies I - VI.

This is great news for me, as I love the Trek TPBs and omnibus editions IDW puts out, esp. of the older Marvel/DC stuff.

However, I just wish they'd put out MORE OF IT! I know it's all to do with profitability etc, but I'd be very happy with some DC TNG collections. So much of this stuff has never been collected, and is really, really good.

IDW's Trek output seems to be slowing down generally... feels like they're just biding time till next year and the new movie.

It doesn't come up on Amazon.com for the USA, so I'm skeptical. AmazonUK often lists stuff that never appears. I'll keep checking.

I hope this comes out, but IDW has pretty much terminated the Star Trek line. Infestation #2 comes out next week. Nothing has been announced beyond that apart from the Khan and Captain's Log trades.

If they do ever bring it out, there'll be wailing and sobbing from those who already bought the ST II, III, IV movie omnibus.

It would be double the thickness of that volume. Why not just do I, V, VI?

As far as I can see, Trek titles simply don't sell. The most recent bookscan reports show that the Trek trades don't even register in the top 750 (Which means they sell below 3,330 units which is how many the 751th title sold).

Yeah, even though they're doing great work (by and large) there just aren't enough people who still want Trek comics to make it viable, outside of stunts like the Infestation crossover.

Yikes. That's a pretty grim statistic.

Amazon is full of listings for books that were cancelled before publication. This is probably one of them. IDW cancelled at least a couple of other planned reprint collections, too.

The fact that most of the DC stuff they reprinted had just been reprinted by Titan a couple years earlier couldn't have helped their sales.

Apparently this has been put _back_ on the schedule for late Spring (or so).

I understand that the omnibus collections have sold decently well, so that might be the motivation.

IDW released their may solicitations, and zero announcements for anything trek-related. Their focus for that month will be heavy on transformers and G.I. Joe.
