IDW New Frontier #1

So I bought the first issue of New Frontier yesterday and I have to say I loved the art and also the story. The one thing I was disappointed in, was the bridge. Why would there be an standard Galaxy class bridge design on a newer starship and not have the recent changes to the design?
I just can't believe IDW didn't have the addition stations and all.
I have to say I love the design for Bravo Station. Goes great. I can't wait for the second issue to come out next month.
I know for a fact that I'm happy to have New Frontier back again. I love this series.

I'm guessing that the artist used the TNG series for reference and decided that it would be a more familiar design for casual readers/viewers.

It is so good to know that the first issue is out now! :)

That we will see station Bravo is a very interesting teaser to me. I am looking forward to that. By the way, I am not surprised that the bridge looks like typical Galaxy class. If I remember correctly, it is a souped up older model which means that the hardware may look old fashioned but the inside, the software, might be much more sophisticated. But of course that is the technical layman I am speaking.

Is there a tentative date for the trade paperback, yet? I couldn't find it on amazon.de. I'm not into comics normally, but since the New Frontier exposure was rather limited the last few years I want to give this one a try.

I ordered a subscription for the whole series and the first issue was just shipped. I can't wait. :D

If IDW follows the pattern, the TPB for Turnaround will be released three months after the final issue of the comic book series. So figure we'll see it in November.

Ah, thanks.

Wow, now this is some good timing because I just got my hands on this this afternoon, but I haven't read it yet. I'm glad to hear positive things about it though.
From what I saw the art looks pretty good, although I'm not exactly sure exactly sure who everyone was, but that is probably because I was jus randomly skimming through it, not actually reading it.

I'm reading through the New Frontier novels at the moment and am looking forward to reading the comics eventually. I'm just worried because the other IDW series (with the exception of Klingons: Blood Will Tell) have left me cold.

Either way I will wait to the (hopefully) eventual Trade Paperback collection which is so much easier to get in the UK. I just hope it can exceed the rather disappointing The Space Between and Year Four series.

I was surprised that noone else had posted anything yet but I thought why the heck, just post. I made a positive and negative review but overall I thought it was time for New Frontier to have something out again. I know there was alittle cameo on the recent TNG books but well this is what I wanted more.
You know after seeing Mark pop up w/ a bald head, makes me wonder if this storyline is somehow tied to the Mirror Universe but then again he might have just didn't want hair anymore.

It's quite possible, in fact maybe likely, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the Mirror Jellico who stole the Paradox since the most revealing line Ed says is "We just need this ship more than any of you do." Seems like a very Terran-Resistance-y kind of thing to say. Plus PAD made such a big deal of the fact that Jellico's DNA was a match, and saying things like "The Ed Jellico I know would not" blah blah blah. I didn't even remember that MU McHenry was a baldy until you brought it up, and that would raise two common elements of a theme to our attention. I guess we'll have to wait and to see.

Over all, I loved it, just too damn short! I crave more! I thought the art and likenesses were awesome! Except for Eppy's bedhead, what's up with those bangs? And who was the Platinum blond Asian at the Excal's helm? Was that supposed to be Hash? Isn't he on the Trident, or did he piss off Kat too much?

Didn't the inhabitants of the Mirror universe also refer to ships as 'he', like Jellico did?

I enjoyed the issue, not as much as "Double Time" but I thought it was pretty entertaining. The only thing that I would've liked to be included was a cast list, much like how the Marvel-Paramount Trek comics had on the inside cover. I haven't read all of the NF novels, so it would've been nice to have that refresher on who's who.

I just read this yesterday, and thought it was pretty good. I really enjoyed getting to see the newer characters like Kalinda, Xy and Tania, and I thought it seemed to set up a pretty good mystery for the series. As for the writting, I thought it was good, I'd put it up there with the last few NF books myself. Good pick with the MU stuff, I had completely forgotten about the fact that Mirror McHenry was bald. I just hope we get to see more of the characters, like Moke, Xyon, and Soleta, in the other issues.

Well if its revealed later on in an future issue or someone from either IDW or Pocket say something, hopefully I will get the credit for that notice. LOL. Nah, its cool.

Yea, I don't get why Hash is on the Excalibur. I thought he was on the Trident too. Gotta wonder now about that one.

I'm glad everyone noticed things too after I posted on here.

Well Hash was openly insubordinate to Kat, threw a hissy fit and stormed out of the briefing room tossing out a transfer request. From what I remember his request was shot down by both Kat and Shelby, and Hash was basically told to just deal. Which he seemed to be doing just fine by the end of the book. So if that is Hash we see in the new comic, then the question is begged again. Regarding the helmsman aboard the Excal: "Wherefore art thou Romeo?"

This comic certainly knocked Joe Flanagan out of the race to play Calhoun. While the art didn't bring any other actor to mind (not a bad thing) I also didn't get a clear impression of the scar and the violet eyes.

Nice to see Burgy and Tonia Tobias.
