IDW 2008, New Frontier and MU!

Calhoun looks more like my brother-in-law then the way Calhoun is supposed to look. That depiction is so off, it's not funny. Whoever drew it should hopefully be fired for how bad that really is.

^ It's no worse than any of the other differing versions of Calhoun we've seen over the years. Besides, it's art, not a photograph. Interpretations will vary, as will reactions.

Breathe, grasshopper. It's all good :)

No kissing (I am married) but a group hug is definitely fine. :D

Yes, the story sounds very promising. I am hoping that this story answers the question how Calhoun and Jellico suddenly became best friends. My curiosity is definitely growing. Hm, it is probably not a coincidence that the first NF comic was also dealing with the topic time travel and my guess is, we will meet a certain captain again…

Interesting is that covers and interior art are provided by the same artist.

I think Mike Collins Calhoun is definitely better but I also think, the Calhoun shown on “No Limits” is definitely worse. If the cover is a typical example of how Thompson is drawing him, at least this time his face has character. It is not the “strikingly handsome” Calhoun as PAD described him in “Before Dishonor” and I miss that but at least he looks interesting. The Calhoun on “No Limits” was just bland and I find that even worse.

The time-travel aspect does make the setting(s) anybody's guess, but, if the cover is any indication, Shelby is in her Admiral's uniform.

*Takes part in group hug*

The story definitely does sound interesting. I'm very curious what would drive good ol' Jellico to actually steal a ship.
As for the art, the cover is my least favorite version of Mac I've seen yet, but it isn't bad enough to keep me from buying it when it comes out. As long as it's Peter David's usual quality I'll be happy.

Can't wait for the NF series. When I saw that cover, I was like sweeett. I can't believe IDW finally gave in into doing NF but its also nice to have another NF comic again, even if its a miniseries. Just can't wait to see more books too. I'm also glad to see there will be a Mirror Universe story and focused on Pike finally. Can't wait for this good year to come.

I have just noticed that after I mentioned the news on his website, PAD has confirmed that he is writing NF comics:

Just to confirm what's been announced elsewhere, yes, I will be writing a five issue New Frontier series for IDW next year. It will be completely in continuity and will pick up exactly where the previous NF book left off. There will also be another New Frontier short story set in the Mirror Universe as part of another collection.

I do not have a pub date on the next novel. When I do I'll let you know.

Wow, five issues! That is more than I expected.

That the story is very much "present day" is exciting, too. I always wanted to know what the more recent characters look like, people like the two Xyons and Moke. Seeing M`ress and Arex should be very interesting, too.

^OOooooo, I didn't even think about the fact that we will finally get to see the newer characters. Swweeett!

Should be interesting. At least M'Ress and Arex have already been seen in TOSY4 issues so far.
I'm just glad to hear that the NF Miniseries is going to be after the last books.

Yes indeed, but fleetcaptain meant that they'd already been in IDW products, which is encouraging.

M'Ress (pencilled by Gordon Purcell, coloured by Leonard O'Grady) and Arex (pencilled by Steve Conley, coloured by Leonard O'Grady) in recent issues of IDW's TOS "Year Four":

Sweet...that cover looks fantastic. Have been pretty much ignoring the various IDW Star Trek series but I'll be buying the New Frontier and the mirror universe story.

That's cool, I hadn't realized they had appeared in the Year Four comics. Have they been in all of them?

They both made fleeting appearances throughout #1, Arex in #2, M'Ress featured by name in #3, and Arex has substantial dialogue in the current one (#5).

Five issues? What a great surprise that is. Calhoun for President!!!

Hmm. I wonder if the Federation has a natural-born citizenship requirement for Federation Presidents...

^ I wouldn't see why. Frankly, I think it's an outmoded concept today, let alone for a progessive, multifarious society like the Federation.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman
