So i ordered a protective casing for my mobile from ebay (hong kong), and i found this in the package along with the case i bought.

Does anyone know what the hell this is? I've sorta grown fond of it, its currently hanging on my computer. (Not on the computer i photographed it on.)

I apologize for the quality, the only digital camera i own is in my phone, and its utter rubbish.

Beep! Wrong answer! *pulls lever and you fall into the rancor pit* I'm running Lucy (Lucid Lynx LTS 10.4.3) on that thing. Good riddance too, Unity gives me a headache.

Your ability to state the obvious amazes me.:guffaw:

I was thinking more along the lines of some sort of Chinese new year decoration. But all right, I'll bite. Ta, luv'.

Which are sometimes attached to mobiles or their cases so yours doesn't look exactly like everyone else's. Apparently it's a thing in Asia. They also commonly attach little stuffed animals made of micro fiber so you can clean your mobile screen quickly.

    Pretty much.

It's was Chinese New Year a few days ago and Hong Kong is big on that and celebrates a lot. They just gave you a Chinese decoration. A gift for Chinese New Year. You can hang it somewhere or attach to your phone if it's small enough. They are crazy about having danglers on their phones in Hong Kong, so I'm not at all surprised that you got such a gift with your phone accessory ;)

A Chinese guy I work with gave me one almost exactly like that, but a little bigger, last year. I don't remember exactly what he said it was, but as I remember, it's as others have said, a decoration they give for the New Year or something like that.

Chinese (or at least Hong Kong) people often like to put little tassles like that on their cell phones. Usually the case (or the phone itself) has a little loop somewhere on it to attach it to.

Lots of Chinese people went to my school and they all had them. :p They don't really have anything to do with the New Year.

I saw people having two or three of those attached to their phones. From beads to manga characters.

The dangling thingy doesn't have anything to do with CNY in general, but the one ares93has got does :p

My brother got me something similar last year because I'm year of the Rabbit. Apparently the one he got has something to do with good scholarship (may have to do with the Buddhist temple he got it from). I don't really use it, though.

It's a prosperity talisman, which is why it has a coin in it. It's either a taoist or feng shui/qi gung thing, I forget which.

If you have a window in the southeast of your house, you can hang this there to "trap" money that would otherwise fly away.

It's just a little dangly. You put the loop through a little hole for such attachments (most phones have one, and some cameras) and pull the rest of the ornament through the loop.

I bought a few games from play asia over the years and they would put these wee things in the package with the games at no extra charge, and sometimes also a little good luck card.
