Idea for an ENT episode

Recently I've got an idea for a possible episode of ENT:

In DS9, as far as I know, it has been established that the Founders knew about alpha quadrant powers / races long before the wormhole has been discovered and they were planning a first contact for sometime in 26th century. The discovery of the wormhole had forced them to change their plans and speed-up their war effort -> so they attacked much sooner, in the 24th century.

The question is, where did the Founders know about the AQ from.

There could be an episode where ENT meets either a changelling, or a 22nd C Dominion starship. I don't know how exactly would they get into the AQ (for what we know, they could have known about the wormhole for a looong time before the Feds found out), but it could result in some fun foreshadowing of what's to come in 24th C.

It sounds a little forced, but no more then Regeneration, and I pretty much like how that episode turned out.

What do you think? (Please no replies like "ENT is a crap, it shouldn't do anything related to DS9" etc.)

One of the things I've never understood about some critics of ENT is the insistence that it should have been a "prequel" to TOS, and only TOS, thus yielding wailing and gnashing of teeth when Ferengi and Borg show up.

As far as I'm concerned, anything in "future" Trek should be fair game.

As for your idea, it's an interesting one. But the shapeshifters would have to be disguised in such a way that there would be no record of their existence (particularly their location), because the Dominion is such a mystery to Sisko et.al. in DS9.

There was Silent Enemy and nobody has a clue who they were. Maybe they told them ... second ... they look ugly :guffaw:

Well maybe not a ship from the Founders, but they could have encountered a shapeshifter easily enough. Remember that Odo was just sent off into space by the Founders, who figured he'd eventually return a few centuries later, so it's entirely plausible that Archer could encounter one of these lone shapeshifters. Like Odo it too would not know it's origin, avoiding any continuity problems. After all it's established in the TOS universe that they know of the existence of aliens who can shapeshift.

THey had the chance to have changlings...in ROUGE PLANET, just it was a slug creature instead of a blob.

I mean they missed their chance right there...solids hunting shapeshifters. Instead they made a disposable episode.

Well, in Oasis, they could have had Rene Auberjonois (spelling?) play a shapeshifter... Would have been a huge improvement over the dull tale we got...

It's just the "Ferengi" episode and "Borg" episode format all over again.

Something seen in later Trek is encountered by the crew of the NX-01, but for whatever reason they either don't get the name of the species, or don't report it to Starfleet Command, or their memory is wiped....etc...etc..

Formulaic and Coto-esque in terms of shoehorning references to later Trek awkwardly and unnecessarily into ENT.

There are already several references it shape sifters. Look at the woman on Rura Penthe that took the form of Kirk. For all you know she could have been just like Odo. That being said, I think it's perfectly plausible to have one on ENT.

There were several shapechanging races in TOS, so I didn't have a problem with ENT adding another. In addition to the M-113 salt creature, sometime prior to Kirk's era, Captain Garth encountered a race on Antos who taught him 'cellular metamorphosis'.

As a race, The Changelings from DS9 are deep in the Gamma Quadrant. As I understand it, Odo and others were sent out to avoid persecution by solids. Was a timeframe for that ever established? It would need enough time for the story of their existence to become a myth and for Odo to be apparently unique. That sounds well before ENT if you ask me.

Actually I believe one of the founders told him that he was sent out to learn about other cultures, kind of like a probe, or I suppose more like a harbinger of invasion. I could be mistaken though, so don't quote me on that.
