Idea for a new project!

After watching a lot of TOS lately, I've realized that even in the Updated episodes we never see but 2 or 3 classes of starfleet vessels. I've seen a few designs for other fan made ships but never as many classes as we see in later series. I thought a good project would be to fill in the blanks and create our own fleet for that time period. I also noticed that there are quite a few similarities between ships from different eras, like the basic enterprise configuration form TOS to the TNG movies and the "akiraprise". It is logical that other TOS ships would share some design aspects with there TNG era counterparts. The science vessel i'm working on now is my attempt at a TOS era Olympic class. Personally I'd love to see a TOS era intrepid or steamrunner class. So post any of your designs here, new or old, 2d or 3d.

British 3D artist and TrekBBS poster Starscape has some very interesting images on his web-site.

My favorite of his is the Spitfire. (Additional angles: 1, 2) Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this, but I see a slightly modified form of his Spitfire concept as being the TOS predecessor to the TNG-era Miranda. I see Spitfire as being a medium- or light-cruiser supplement to the Constitution-class heavy cruiser fleet.

I'm not a fan of single-nacelle starship concepts, but Starscape's Diligent (another image) posed some interesting possibilities. If you look in my thread from December of '08, at my Herman concept (posting #8), you can see my take on the Diligent.
