I want to go home...

Thespeckledkiwi

Vice Admiral
After looking at some of the city skyline shots of Icheon and Seoul, it made me a little sad and a little home sick. I know I grew up in North America and that I am an American but still, Korea feels...like home.

I tried to go back a few years ago but they decided to reject me because I wasn't American enough (apparently American to them is white, Anglo-Saxon not...Korean dude living in America).

But...I was always curious about the culture and the atmosphere of Korea. I love their architecture and their cities.

I also heard that the government has lessen their stance on adoptees (once considered a great shame to their society) and they are now welcoming back Koreans.

*sighs* If only I had the money to go back home...Or find an American job in Korea.

I spent an absolutely terrific week in Daejeon during IAC2009. If nothing else it is certainly a far cleaner and safer city than any American counterpart of similar size (especially that shithole Philadelphia where I wasted three years of my life). :)

Well, you might be sentimental about it now, from afar, but living there is a different thing. You should first try to live there for a time before deciding to go there permanently.

So, a job there sounds like a good idea. I've always wanted to spend a holiday in Korea, too. But my (non-existent) financial resources have limited my travels to Europe.

God, if I had the choice between living in the US and some shitty third world Asian country, I know which one I would choose!!!

Third world? Wow, that's pretty ignorant. Hey OP, just get a job teaching English. I'm sure you could get one.

Korea has a great program for bringing in teachers to teach English. You should look into joining if you want to go there. They pay for return flights back to America each year.

I know what TSK means - I love Australia, but I was born in Scotland, and had a lot of Scottish culture in my life, and been there once, and would really like to go and live there for a year, maybe 2. Find out a bit more about who I am by where I come from, and all that.

Tulin, Sth Korea is far from a 3rd world country. Nth Korea is a different kettle of fish, but that's a thread for another day, and probably TNZ

Over there you'd feel like an American. Over here you feel like a Korean. You're caught between two worlds.

But by splicing your genes with James Cameron's genes you can create an avatar that will let you interact badly in both cultures. :)

I spent two weeks in South Korea in 2008 and thought it seemed a wonderful and beautiful place.

I spent every night shopping and going to dance clubs, and the day working very closely with my Korean military counterpart, who was just a great guy.

They don't want me :( I tried. I don't look like an American aka Anglo American.

But yeah, I find the architecture beautiful.

As for Philly, I almost got mugged the first night there. Some construction workers picked me up and helped me LOL
