I USED to marvel at the Sylvester era credits.

But no longer!

Am I a snob?

I'm watching them flow now, The Greatest Show In The Galaxy, and frankly I think the animation in South Park seems more sophisticated. Hells, Scrawling on bear skins with with mashed pigment seems more advanced than the height of what was possible in the 80s... Is this first gen CGI, or regular animation pretending to look like CGI like they did in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?

It's amazing how things date, considering the simpler credits made for the previous 23 seasons hold up quite well and don't make ones teeth grind at all.

Aww thats just 20 years time talking. Back when we first saw 'Time and the Rani' at our DW club, someone commented "Who died and left the BBC rich?"

Guess I'm wierd, but I still get a bit of a rush at the McCoy credits.

At the time his title sequence was impressive. Unfortumately, like other things in the 80's, it's something that hasn't aged very well... kudos to the BBC for pushing the boundaries at the time though!

I still marvey at The Seventh Doctor credits. Both the music (especially the music) and the sequence are my favorites amongst the Doctor Who credits.

Heck, I still like the opening credits during Seasons 18-23 with the starfield coming together to form the Doctor's face.

Ditto for the psychodelic tunnel opening during Seasons 11-17...

I agree with Guy. I much prefer the earlier credits. They hold up much better.

And I love the 80s. Probably my favourite decade for music.

For my money, the original version of the Doctor Who theme song -- the William Hartnell -- remains the best yet produced, followed closely by Murray Gold's Series Two/Tennant-Piper-Agyeman arrangement.

Take away the rocks and clean Tardis and I think it hasn't dated at all. Have any fans ever recreated it from scratch? Plenty do time tunnels, but I reckon the McCoy would still pose a challenge to modern computers. It's incredibly busy for a 1987 animation.

Take away the rocks? Those looked fake, like a video game, at the time...

Yeah I have to agree. I love the choreography of the sequence (which still makes it pretty exciting to watch), but the effects themselves are dreadful.

Still dig the music though.

The effects have dated certainly, but I still prefer McCoy's titles sequence to all the others. The big bang, the galaxy, the TARDIS materialising and zooming off, all of it gives me a buzz.

I never liked the McCoy opening credits. My faves were the later Pertwee early Tom Baker opening sequences.

Ditto, I watched a little of McCoy's Dalek story and I recoiled from the title theme (not really recoiled, it's just this forum speaking :p)

I like the visuals of all of the original series' various opening sequences. As for the title music, the original original -- the version played during the Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee and early Tom Baker eras -- remains the best.

I never liked the explosion at the start of the McCoy credits but I've always loved the opening credits for seasons 11 though 17.

TNG season 1 was about the same time and it has aged equally as badly imho. Both intro sequences have a certain 80s shitsheen about them.

I love them both dearly :techman:

Don't forget his wink!

That put me off of McCoy years ago when I watched Doctor Who on PBS... it wasn't until I picked up some McCoy DVDs that I realized he wasn't a scary winking menace!
