I thought they were setting up Ezri with Jake.

I mean come on!

Dax had that line at the end of seven OH 2, where she gets on her tip toes, looks up into his eyes and says "Ooo... Yoooooy're sooooo tall."

I could honestly hear Jake's penis waking up.

(Not a typo, I was suggesting that his winkle was napping, and that the little Trill interrupted his sexgun's siesta.)

Seriously, and Benjamin thought a 20 year old Dabo girl was too much woman for this boy.

Hoo, boy...that's a little too much information, there, brother!

Still...I see your point:

I mean come on!

Dax had that line at the end of seven OH 2

Noted. She turns to him, smiles, and says in quite a soft, feminine tone, "Hi, Jake!"

She doesn't get on her tip toes, or anything like that. Still...Jake's smile speaks volumes.

And...later, Jake seems like he's trying to flirt with her, in the runabout. But, ever the innocent, Ezri doesn't seem to notice the subtext...even though Sisko does.

Ben got inbetween those two crazy mixed up kids and nixed it?

Gee.

Ezri is being sandwhiched by forbidden love.

Wow your one sick gay, but I like crude humour! I don't think Jake was trying it on, more like he was being friendly. Besides Jake always has an eye for cute ladies, hell he even tried to date Kira in one episode in season 3, so he got balls but not any real substance to really woo the ladies.

I've always seen Jake as having a crush on Ezri at the start. How could he not? He sort of 'knows' Dax, to the point that he's comfortable around here...and here she is as a much younger person, one more approachable to him.

I always thought Jake/Ezri would have been the right direction to go for a couple storytelling reasons.

It (finally!) give Jake something to do and involves him more in the plot.

It creates a really fun dynamic for the Siskos - how does Ben feel about Jake dating this young woman who's also his former confidante, also his former mentor, and who saw Jake in diapers? How does it change his relationship with Dax and with Jake; does it make him feel really old? How does Dax feel about dating somebody she's known since infancy and is now sort of the same age as her?

How does Worf feel about all this, for that matter?

I kinda thought Sisko's "she's too old for you" line at the end of Afterimage was hinting towards a developing storyline for them. Alas, we went with the safe, if somewhat obvious, direction of Bashir/Ezri.

I often wonder if it wouldn't have been a better direction to have Jake, not Quark, star in "The Emperor's New Cloak". If Ezri Prime is "300 years too old for you"...Mirror Ezri isn't.

And near the end--instead of the left-field gag of Mirror Leeta (which was only put in to get a reaction from Rom...who, in this revised version, wouldn't be there...), perhaps have Jake and Mirror Ezri...as Captain America would say..."fondue".

Frankly, I would have preferred Ezri/Jake to Ezri/Worf (which to be fair, they didn't really pursue as a full-fledged relationship) or Ezri/Bashir, which simply felt like the good Dr. was settling for the Dax he could get. As Kestrel mentions above, it creates a really interesting, complicated situation for the Siskos and would have given Jake more involvement in Season 7. I was never a big fan of Ezri (though she did have her moments), but I think I might have like her a lot more if they explored something new and different with her and Jake rather than a re-tread of Jadzia's relationships with Worf and Bashir.

Ezri/Jake definitely would have been interesting. I think they really dropped the ball with Jake in the latter seasons, especially when he could have gotten involved in a lot of things as the Federation News Service's war correspondent stationed on the most important location in the quadrant.

When I was watching through the series, I would go to Memory Alpha and read the background information they have on each episode. I was shocked by how many episodes originally started out as an idea featuring Jake, only to be changed into something else. One of the original ideas for "In the Pale Moonlight" was to have Jake discover that Sisko and Garak are involved in some shady dealings in an attempt to bring the Romulans into the war. As much as I loved that episode, I would have loved to see that original idea.

As I've often said, I sincerely doubt that Julian was "settling", or that he saw Ezri as a "substitute" for Jadzia. His interactions with Ezri were far different than with Jadzia--she's a far different character. It would be very hard to get the two confused (unless you're nuts, like Worf).

That's the problem with Trill characters, IMHO. Nearly everything's a re-tread. Everything is always "remember when." It's annoying enough getting that in real life from people you know. TV is a "show don't tell" format and Trill episodes didn't help that very much.

Jake and Ezri? The two lowest quality characters on the show hooking up? I'm feeling that. The Worf/Bashir stuff was quite stale, as DS9 Gal AZ reminds us. At least it might have been interesting.

Ezri and Jake would have been great since they were the (basically) the same age.

I would have liked to see Jake and the Red Squad Chief Petty Officer from Valiant. I liked her a lot. Of course they would have had to figure out a way to add another recurring character to their long list of recurring characters.

Also I agree that I did NOT like Ezri/Bashir. To me it just didn't feel right.

The Valliant's XO's floated my boat

There's no way that Bashir should have been able to recover from "You have Jadzia's eyes."

That shit is messed up.

He was trying to see Jadzia, I suppose--but Ezri smacked it down right away. For the rest of the season, Julian and Ezri interacted with one another as...Julian and Ezri. Their conversation in "Afterimage" brought complete closure regarding Jadzia--"If Worf hadn't come along", etc.

For a detailed look as to how...I recommend my tale in the Fanfic Forum, "As Time Goes By", which novelizes that scene. ;)

"300 years too old for you"
I really wish jake would have pointed out that:

1. Technically Ezri is hundreds of years too old for pretty much everyone who's not a joined trill

And

2. It's not Ben's business who his adult son's dating. There is a point were parents have to learn to accept theirnchildren's decisions and shut up.

What about Muse?

That lady who played Evil Lynn in the Masters of the Universe Movie with those eyes, was easily pushing 50 when Jake thought he was in for a bit of slap and tickle with that old bird.

She turned out to be a psychic vampire that traded genius for life expectancy, but apart form that, would Ben have stood in the way of that relationship? Even though she was possibly thousands of years old rather than the 48 years young which Meg Foster actually was.

Jake could have brought Onaya home for suppa with pappa... HAHA!

They just made an Animal House Reference One Tree Hill.

"You're on Double Secret Probation".

Glorious.
