I thought they were done filming...

How can there be a filming site if the filming has already ended?

Principal photography was announced as having been completed. There will still be second unit photography (often not involving major stars) taking place, plus pick up shots and retakes, perhaps more crowd scenes, footage of natural locations, SPFX, etc, etc.

"Filming?" Are they using film? Seems like with all the visual effects they'd want to go digital.

Let's just hope they leave enough time for decent post production, and don't throw some half-edited piece of * at the public, changing endings after opening weekend, and the like.

"Film," "filmmakers" and all of that terminology seems destined to remain for the foreseeable future (isn't that little phrase itself quite the weasel? How much future is ever foreseeable? This afternoon? But I digress...). One of these days "feature film" is going to be one of those "Did You Know?" etymologies ("You see, at one time movies consisted of analogue images chemically recorded on a kind of plastic tape - the so-called 'film'...").

A few filmakers still like to use film as the means to make movies with.

Steven Spielberg being one of the few who still likes to use film.

J.J. as far as I can tell is another one that does as well.

Just because Lucas has gone all digital dosen't mean all of Hollywood has.

Are most theaters even capable of showing all digital movies?

I'm worried about that myself.

I mean, they only have another year or more to do post.

And about this 1960s red Corvette convertible being used for one of the shots in this location?
We are going to see Star Trek in 23 century, aren´t we?
Does anyone collect antiquity in 23 century?

A polluter vehicle wheeling in 23 century?

I think that they willl can still include scenes from 21 century. Flashback, Kirk'ancestor, something like it.

Old steam locomotives (wood/coal burning polluters) are still popular tourist attractions in our enlightened 21st century 'trying to be Green' world.

I reeeeaaallly hope we don't see a flashback to a 20th/21st century Kirk ancestor -- that would be cheesey.

Not to mention the fact that 23rd century catalytic converters work very, very well, and they don't even use traditional petrol to run the thing, instead going with some kind of synthetic fuel. ;)
