Solve this equation for A

(A * B + C) = D

I completely forgot how to get A on the right and D on the left.

1. (A * B + C) = D

2. A * B + C = D

3. A * B = D - C

4. A * B = A * B + C - C (from 2)

5. A * B = A * B

Well, that was fun. :)

Snaploud's solution is correct, assuming B is nonzero. I mention this, because even in real world applications, division by zero can crop up and cause strange behavior.

In particular:

When B is zero, any value of A is a solution, provided C=D.

On the other hand, when B is zero, but C and D are not equal, there is no solution.

actually no, it wasn't. I had a formula for a program I am making that I needed to solve for and I couldn't remember how.
