I swear I've seen this corridor somewhere before.

This is a panel from Ultimate Fantastic Four #22, part 2 of the 3 part story that introduces the Marvel Zombies universe.

Look familiar? :)

He he he...I never heard of or saw this until now. Nice catch and eye there! Nice to see TOS still leaks into pop culture from time to time.

Yay for the TOS rounded corridors. And yeah, puzzling about the light source. The glare on the floor would seem to be caused by overhead lights... which are clearly not on the ceiling.

I believe it is a (now clench teeth together while saying the following) ohhh - maaaahj

:)

Umm, if this is a faithful copy of the TOS corridor, then the ceiling would be too high up to be seen from this angle. Those transverse beams up there would have deep "high bays" between them, and the lights could be at the very top of those bays. No user-unfriendly sideways glare, just the spots on the well-licked floor. :vulcan:

I just think its cool someone in comics/graphic novels slipped the visual reference in there. Sure its not accurate or even close in some regards but a TOS nod is a TOS nod.

Heck yeah that's crappy art. Mr. Fantastic's hand on the right is horrendous!

Actually, that yellowish rocky hand, (if that wasn't a big enough clue ) belongs to the Ultimate universe version of Ben Grimm, alias the Thing. In the story the FF are trying find their Reed Richards, who has been transported to the zombie universe where most of the Marvel Heroes are now hunger flesh eating zombies.

And in case anyone is wondering, the scene is taking place in the Baxter Building, the FF's headquarters.

Marvel Comics has contained a number of homages to Classic Trek throughout the years. I remember many years ago, reading a comic in which some character (I can't remember which) was trying to explain away his pointed ears with the old mechanical ricepicker story. When they weren't believed, he said "Well, it didn't work for Spock either."

MST 3K also had a lot of TOS references both during the Joel Hodgson era as well as afterwards. Comments, and costume gags/bits. Some were subtle like "Kirok" and "Nomad" comments tossed in very quietly. Others in your face.

WAIT! Just one moment here....

Did someone actually say "zombie universe"?

That's the single greatest idea in comics.. unless there is a Ninja Pirate Monkey Universe anywhere...

I think he's talking about the anatomically impossible drawing of the guy's right hand walking down the corridor behind Beverly.

Now that would be cool to read!

But getting back to the zombie universe, it is one of the greatest comic ideas since Secret Wars. In case there are people here not in the known, "Marvel Zombies" is about a world where a zombified Sentry invades Earth-2149 and spreads an infection that transforms most of the Marvel Heroes into zombies. The series is actually a spinoff of the UFF 3 parter "Crossover" where Ultimate Reed Richards communicates with who we think is the mainstream continuity Reed Richards but is really the Zombie Reed. The story shifts to the zombie universe in "Marvel Zombies #1-5" where Magneto, the last living and superpowered being, destroyes the dimensional portal between the Ultimate and Zombie Universes, and the zombies eat him, finishing off the entire human race in a matter of days. Then the Silver Surfer and Galactus come around and all hell breaks lose. I don't want to give too much away, but lets just say even with cosmic powers, the World Devourer and the Surfer don't have a prayer.

But the gory fun doesn't end there. UFF #30 -32 deals with the zombified Fantastic Four who escaped their world before Magneto destroyed the portal and threaten to bring the infection to the Ultimate Universe. Luckily, Doctor Doom comes around and hauls their asses back to the zombie universe. And just to add more fuel to the bonfire, Marvel Zombies crosses over with Dynamite Entertainments Army of Darkness, the spinoff series based on the Evil Dead movie series, and everyones favorite chainsaw toting, Deadite smashing hero Ash Williams gets to take on the entire zombie horde the day the infection starts.

With virtually no end in sight, Marvel puts out Marvel Zombies: Dead Days, which expands the AOD storyline which shows the zombification of Spider-Man and how the greatest mind in Marvel Comics goes insane after the lose of his kids to the zombie She-Hulk. The fate of the universe goes from bad to worse in Black Panther #27-30 where the new Fantastic Four go head to head with the Zombie Galacti, zombies with the power of Galactus roaming the universe eating everyone in sight. The struggle for survival is brought back to Earth in the currently running "Marvel Zombies 2". 40 years after the infection wiped out the human race, survivors struggle to continue living under the rule of an aging Black Panther and the decendants of Magnetos Acolytes. When the Zombie Galacti return after eating everything in the universe, the final battle for life and death begins.

This series is by far one of Marvels greatest triumphs and I completely recommend it. :bolian:  :bolian:
