I Spy

I started watching I Spy on the Netflix. The TV show that is. Very good show with solid production values. Each episode has a cinematic quality. Very different in tone than Mission Impossible or Man from UNCLE. There is a certain dark under tone I didn't expect. I've no recollection of seeing the show as a kid, though I was aware of it. Maybe it was on too late. I was also surprised to see Robert Culp wrote several episdodes.

Yes, this show was WAY ahead of its time in many respects. Not only did they have a black actor and a white actor working together as partners and equals, but the production values were top-notch. The tone was indeed far darker than most of the US action shows--far more like "Danger Man" than "Man From Uncle."

I loved the repartee between the leads, and that, of the two of them, Scott usually got the best lines:

Scott: Has anyone told you how good you look in that?
Robinson: Why, no--.
Scott: Well, if they do, smack 'em in the face real fast, because they're NOT your friend.

I always enjoyed the show, was a big fan.

I had teh chance to ask Bill Cosby a question about it as a teen. Asked if there were restrictions on where they could film, some was on locations.
His answers was, "Not allowed to film around US Embassies."

Seems the the Gov. didn't want to give the show any credence.
