A while ago, I visited my DVD shop and saw this DVD (see link) lying there, called "I shot JFK". Out of curiosity, I bought it, and watched it. By the end of this documentary, I was astonished, and convinced by the arguments that various people brought, that a guy called James Files was the real killer of Kennedy, and not Oswald, as many people still believe.
Now, I talked this over with my dad (who was 23 when Kennedy was shot, and still remembers the event), and he dismissed it immediately. His argument was, that if it was true, it would have made the news worldwide, which it didn't, not even a peep (at least, here in Europe).
Now, since I (fortunately) have access here to real Americans, my question is : What is your opinion about this, guys?
Is my dad right?

Anything is possible but the evidence isn't concrete either way.

Well, I don't now if you saw this documentary or not, but let me tell you : I'm generally a very skeptical person, but after hearing all those arguments, by a lot of people (!), even I was convinced.
James Files himself tells the whole story in an interview, and not one moment did I think he was lying.

I think your dad is right, but given your response to Neutrino, I doubt anything any of us say will make a difference.

;)

Not true, Teya! I wouldn't ask for your opinions if I didn't have doubts about this story. It's just.. well... when my dad wins an argument, he keeps gloating about it for a very looooong time.

I'm going with the principle of parsimony. Oswald shooting Kennedy makes the most sense by far. It fits the evidence of what happened very well (as much as people have tried to blow smoke over the evidence, more recent studies have tended to confirm things as determined back then).

It's difficult to keep conspiracies secret forever. Big giant JFK assassination conspiracies are fun, but aren't very likely.

Mine was the same way. :D

I've been listening to JFK assassination conspiracy theories all my life and not one of them impresses me in the least. There was one shooter and it was Oswald.

There was one shooter and it was Oswald.

I have a confession to make.

I killed JFK. After stealing the TARDIS and traveling forward in time, kidnapping Spock, taking him to the 18th century and outfitting him with a flintlock musket, then abducting master feudal Japanese swordsman, giving them 21st century SWAT team training, having them then train Spock in marksmanship, dumping Spock behind the grassy knoll and having him shoot JFK, and finally replacing Jack Ruby with a robot programmed to kill Oswald in order to keep it all covered up.

I'm glad I got that off my chest. Thanks for listening. :adore:

There is an unbroken change of physical evidence from the bullets that killed Kennedy and wounded Connally all the way back to Oswald ordering the rifle.

No matter what else happened, Oswald shot and killed Kennedy.

Case closed?

;)

I was always skeptical about LHO and the "lone gunman" theory. There were parts of the story that really bothered me (the "magic bullet", his defection and re-entry into the US, etc.).

But a few years ago I watched an ABC documentary with Peter Jennings (I think it was called Beyond Conspiracy). After seeing it, I am now absolutely convinced Oswald shot Kennedy and the others.
