I remember you...

This weekend my wife took me to some "THRIFT STORES". She just loves to go to those places, I don't. But, I had nothing else to do so I went. And while looking through the book section I came across some very old TREK books, ones that I had read years ago.

the TMP novel by GR. Many people don't seem to like this book, but I do. I think GR did a pretty good job.

Then I got the one with those creatures that made that sound and Uhura had to save from be slaughtered.

Finally I got a book called BLOODTHIRST.

There were more of them there, but I left them. I won't be reading these books, since I have already read them. And I found out from the lady I bought them from that had I not bought them, they were heading to the trash bin!!! Yikes.

I won't be reading them. I'm going to start collecting these old books and have my wife remove the covers and creat a wall of TREK book covers. Sounds cool to me...

For those of you who like to read and are new to TREK. I suggest going to thrift stores and finding some of these great books from years past. Some of them are quite good!!!

interesting idea - local used bookstore has a bunch I read ages ago and don't have time to read again - what with so many new ones to read! I don't like the idea of defacing books but it'll be more decorative than looking at the spines and it'll kind be like your own little memory lane . . .

That's a pretty cool idea, although no matter how old a book is I could never get myself to actually tear off it's cover.

I am debating removing the covers. So I have decided to keep the books intact and scan the covers with our new scanner. The prints will look just as real and since I can enhance the colors, more vibrant. I will keep the books for my son and hope he reads them someday (if books are still read in those future years!!)

Sounds like a neat idea, I have to agree that I couldn't rip the cover off a book either! I wonder why they just toss them instead of donating them to a library sale or something?

RobertScorpio, do you think you could come up with subject lines for your threads that give people a clue what they're going to be about?

Instead of tearing off the covers, why not scan them and print them?
They may be worth something someday- beyond the fun of Trek reading...

My local-est book store has been closed for days. :(
I want in!!!!

I have to say, I've read this thread and I still don't quite get the thread title...

My bad..this one I titled it as I did because thats the first thing I said when I saw the cover of the book with Uhura on her knees trying to help 'bear cub' looking thing on the cover...I said, "I Remember you" to the book as I picked it up...

Well, if they go unsold in a thrift store, they're probably no more likely to sell at the library.

they do that with comic books too, rip the covers off, ive gottena few free ones that way over the years..but when i got older it sucked more; i dont know why

FYI-Comics and books which are being "Returned" to the vendor get their covers ripped off. The retailer returns the cover for credit and dumps the book. While it may seem awful, there is a reason. Authors are real funny people-they like to get paid for their efforts. Since most book retailers are aware of industry return practices and follow them, nobody else can make money off of the coverless books. They are easily spotted as "unauthorized". As for tearing my own books? Hah. I can't even throw a bad book away....little less, deface one. There are bookmarks all over my house because I won't dog-ear them. Tear the cover off? *shudders* They have a special room in hell for people who do that. Its the same room they send literary critics to when they die.

Okay okay..I wont take the covers off. I'm going to scan them print them and then make the poster art...I'll save the books for my kids. Then again, you gotta know that hte 700 Club would love to start a bonfire with scifibooks...maybe they would play good money for them!!!

Haha, good!
I didn't even like them burning books in "The Day after Tomorrow" ... except those "tax" ones or whatever they found. :D
