Spoilers I really would like to read a novel set during the PIC Season 3 finale

Yes the idea never occurred to me that the D was ever back in service during that year. Riker and Picard just happened to visit that day and Geordi showed it to them one more time for nostalgia’s sake.

Indeed -- the ship probably needed extensive repairs to be museum-ready after that final battle. The "one year later" thing was probably some kind of anniversary commemoration.

Think a big clue for the D being in service throughout this year is that the rechristening of the Titan only happened after the shutdown.

And considering the destruction caused by the Borg upon the fleet, i guess they may have needed every still usable ship for some time.

Doesn't prove anything. Heck, the Titan surely needed more extensive repairs and refits than the E-D; plus it surely takes time for the bureaucracy to move on something like renaming a ship. Or perhaps they simply chose to wait for the one-year anniversary of Picard's achievement and unveil the renamed ship as part of that celebration.

Potentially, but Matalas has clarified on Twitter that it was only every ship within reason that was there, and ships that were busy elsewhere weren't included. (This would've been a better season if Matalas had put all these explanations in the actual show rather than on Twitter.) And again, given the beating the ship took, and all the swooshy Millennium Falcon maneuvers it was never designed for, it may have been in pretty bad shape at the end of it all. So it's far from certain that the ship was "usable."

I wouldn't read too much into that since the Titan was originally going to be renamed USS Picard and the decision to make the Enterprise G was last minute.

Not that it's invalid, but I don't understand where people are getting the impression that the -D didn't just fly straight back to the garage and spent the last year having its restoration completed once things settled down around Earth.
That being said, either the -D going around dealing with the aftermath of the Frontier Day attack or just Night at the (Fleet) Museum would be extremely my shit. Especially the later.

Ok, I'll bite. But is there any evidence that they actually planned to do that on the show?

Matalas tweeted something, I think.

(IMHO, it didn't look "so right"... I was not a fan of the renaming. But that's a subject for another thread... )

I would like a story about Laris waiting for Jean-Luc to come home and tell her about his adventures.

FOR A YEAR.
I want to have Laris being involved on secret adventures of her own. Stuff like the Tal Shiar, Wesley Crusher Traveler Stuff, Section 31 with Empress Georgiou, butt bugs, etc

Good points. But i still think the D may have been in a better condition than a lot of the other ships in the sol system after the confrontation with the Supercube.
Why waste a good ship for parking it in a museum, when it might be needed and could be helpful? ;)

Why? As I recall, most of those ships were the ones doing the firing, not the ones being fired upon. I believe the only fire they took was from Spacedock and the Titan, whose weapons are presumably far less powerful than the Supercube's.

There's also the difference in their starting positions. Those other ships were functional, active, and fully equipped to start with. The E-D was a literal museum piece that was hastily and incompletely brought up to minimally functional standards, using technology nearly 40 years out of date. The other ships presumably had significantly more advanced shields and auto-repair systems, having been designed and built in the wake of an era of wars and invasions, while the E-D was a product of peacetime design philosophy. So even if they'd taken an equivalent amount of damage, I'd expect the newer ships to be far less compromised by it.

It seemed like Geordi may have upgraded the weapon systems and probably the shields.

Also think she could still be of use for some diplomatic missions and logistics during that time.
