I never knew I could get so excited about a bird!

Well actually it's a 'bird, in a bird, in a bird.' ~ how crazy is that man :wtf:

So the 'in-laws' are coming for the first time for Christmas dinner and I thought I'd get something different which has ended up as a guinea fowl, in a duck, in a turkey ~ I'm not completely sure of the pecking order but it has cranberry, apricot and cherry stuffing too!
I'm so excited! (I have no life :weep:) but you have to admit it does sound really scrummy and exciting!!!

Has anyone had one before? And was it nice?
And what on earth do you put with it? ~I'm thinking as little as possible as
a) I'm now broke and
b) I want it to be the star attraction
so a couple of roast pots and a few sprouts?

What's everyone else looking forward to having for Christmas dinner?

My christmas dinner usually consists of:

sprouts -- my favourite green vegetable.
mashed potato -- my favourite non-green vegetable.
chestnut stuffing -- much nicer than sage & onion.

In the past my mum has invariably bought me some vegan friendly thing to include in my christmas dinner, although I'd be no less happy with just the three things listed above.

I remember last year adding some crushed walnuts to the stuffing mixture, which I thought improved it. I might try that again.

We're having the classic Danish x-mas dinner: Roast duck w.dad's classic stuffing (that's also meat!) and pork roast and x-mas sausage, white (just for show) and caramelized potatoes, red cabbage and pickled cucumber plus of course: lots of brown gravy.

For dessert it's the classic Danish dish with the (pseudo-) French name: Riz à l'amande w. cherry sauce.

[innocent] His car ? [/innocent]

No, Iguana's Italian. He's talking about football. ;)

So what ? They make great cars too. Italians are known for football, great cars, nice food. I can't think of anything else ;)

I can! -but alas we're supposed to be nice when talking politics in Misc. so I wont say more. :p

My car is a cheap Toyota and I can't kick a ball straight to save my life. An Italian gentleman's pride lies, or better, stands elsewhere. :D

Then you deserve a generous reminder, possibly after a football game, a nice dinner, and a car trip. :p

Oh great : re-watching France-Italy 2006, eating a pizza "fast-food style", a trip a cheap Toyota and then a reminder in the form of a jealous girlfriend threatening me with a sword...
It has style in a way ;)

Remember that the Pope will have blessed your pizza which came from a business that is a front for the Mafia.

Can I watch? :p

Back on topic (sorry, K'Ehleyr!) the kids and I are having a roast chicken as none of us are too keen on turkey, and our younger son is an extremely picky eater (one of the joys of autism). My husband is having something vegetarian, much to the disgust of our daughter. The rest of the meal will consist of roasted potatoes and root vegetables. None of the kids like traditional Christmas pudding so my husband and I are sharing a small one, with a chocolate log for the kids.

I bought some baking and decorating ingredients today and will bake some cookies tomorrow and let the kids decorate them. You know your kids are getting older when you have to remind them not to draw or write rude things with the writing icing (if ever there's an Easter thread I'll tell y'all about me and my brother and the boiled eggs, the food colouring, and the hidden messages written with white crayon. My mother's reaction was not very Christian ;)).

Don't forget that they make beautiful clothes, too. As I've previously said, the Italians may not always know what they're doing, but they look great doing it!

What I can say: my evenings are never boring!

I giggled as well because of what "bird" is in English slang :D .
Something I was introduced to through the immortal words of Chris Skelton, "Someone needs to take a look at you boss, you're as white as a ginger bird's arse!"

I've just found a recipe for sprouts with chestnuts and pancetta which sound gorgeous ~ I would leave the pancetta out for you, and nice to see you again Jadzia. :)

I couldn't help but giggle like a schoolgirl, since in Italian "bird" is an euphemism for, uh, a gentleman's pride. :alienblush:

:p

Now you've ruined all of my dreams IT ~ Italian stallions do not giggle like schoolgirls! :p

Don't forget to wrap it in bacon.

A most excellent idea ~ then it would be a 'bird within a bird within a bird within a pig!' I likey that idea :)

:wtf: Have none of you heard of Valentino Rossi?
The most excellent and bravest sportsman in Moto GP
And Iggi (it's my pet name for you, feel proud!) ~ if you do not know this, then you are not Italian and I will stop calling you Iggi! :p

I'm going with pickled red cabbage and Xmas sausage, which I'm assuming is what we know as "stuffing"?
Will you quit giggling Iggi and MLB ~ this is a grown up thread :guffaw:

:guffaw:I'm going to have to remember to keep Son's bedroom door firmly closed as he and his friends have been very "creative" with messages, and pictures written on his walls ~ oh it's just like a living diary and I think it's fun (and easily painted over), not sure what FatherInLaw would think though .

I remember one year when Son was yeah high (about 3') I spent all morning doing a full Christmas lunch and he complained and ate nothing ~ the next year we had pizza!

I'm going to do the same with pudding, Christmas Pud for those that want to doze off immediately after lunch and something creamy and chocolate for myself and SisInLaw:)

Well, given my less than impressive stature, I would say I'm more a pony than a stallion. But hey, Genghis Khan conquered half of the world from the back of a pony, so I don't feel bad about it. :D

Oh now I just want to pat you on the head :adore: in a very 'you're a conquering hero ~ I'm hoping you don't jump off your pony and ravish me' kind of way ;)

And now I want to marry you ~ or your father! Especially as Vale will be with Ducati next season. Any chance of Mugello tickets? and what are your B&B rates? :mallory:
