I need directions as to how to add an avatar

I mean step by step cuz I'm a dolt. I have photobucket with lots of options but when I put the gibberish into the edit avatar plce it never works. & yes I unchecked the no avatar box at the top.

You now load an avatar from your computer. Come up with a picture that's a .jpg or a .gif file, no bigger than 140 x 140 pixels and 70 KB, and put it on your desktop. Go to User CP > Edit Avatar. Click Custom Avatar. Use the Browse button to find the image on your desktop, hit Save Changes and there, you have an avatar.

Dumb question. How do I move it to the desktop? I tried grabbing it & setting it there & it worked but it said invalid file when I tried to upload it.

You had two questions there. You can download your file from your Photobucket account to your desktop directly. Just go to the picture in your account, leave you pointer on it, and right click to get "Save picture as..." Or, as you have found out, you can drag and drop one from elsewhere on your computer to the desktop.

Beyond that, it sounds like the picture you wanted to upload didn't meet the board's requirements. Is it:

- no bigger than 140x140 pixels?
- no bigger than 70 KB?
- a .jpg or .gif file?

It has to be all three to be uploaded. If it isn't, MS Paint (I assume you are using Windows) will allow you to adjust the size, file type or even crop down your photo. You could also send it to me and I would be glad to adjust it for you, if you don't want to hassle with it. Send me a PM and I'll give you my email address.
