I just watched Star Trek: Generations for the first time in ten years.

I agree regarding the direction. I loved the bridge shots, the bar shots... the lighting was terrific. It really added a lot of flavor to the context.

The new shots of the Enterprise D looked fantastic, sad the ship got so little screen time.

I really like the Enterprise-B scenes at the start, even though the script appears to have been written for Kirk, Spock and McCoy instead of Kirk, Scotty and Checkov.

It was. The first draft of the script had all seven of the original crew on hand for the launch of the Enterprise-B. The scenes were too crowded, though, and the actors would have been on hand for a line or two at most. Braga and Moore decided that consolidating to the "Big Three" was the way to go, and when Kelley and Nimoy were given the script they both passed. McCoy became Chekov (and Demora switched from being Chekov's daughter to Sulu's daughter), and Spock became Scotty.

I rewatched First Contact tonight and you can count me in the camp of those from earlier in this thread who said it's the clearly superior film, not the camp of those who said otherwise. The script in particular was a big leap above what was offered in the rush job of Generations, but most everything else was heightened as well.

About the only things Generations has going for it over its successor, IMO, are the interesting lighting of the Enterprise-D and Malcolm McDowell. I'd list Goldberg, too, but she's given sorely little screentime.
