I hope I didn't miss a thread about this already underway, but I just wanted to tell you that I saw the new Star Trek trailer! I went to see the German premiere of Watchmen with two friends tonight and couldn't believe my eyes when suddenly there was Kirk driving on his motorcycle! All I really can say at the moment is that the trailer was awesome. Somehow I really liked the moment when Spock is hugging Uhura. Also, I think Eric Bana's Nero will be terrific! The effect of the imploding planet (Vulcan?) didn't impress me too much, though. Only a few people will get the reference, but it honestly reminded me of the cheap Overkill effect from the 60s sci-fi show Raumpatrouille Orion! The space battle effects though were just ... big! And I mean BIG! ;) The Enterprise just looks gigantic!

Sorry, if all of this sounds a little crazy to you, but I think that's just the dizziness after experiencing several geekgasms ... ;)

Oh, and by the way, Watchmen is an awesome and very thought-provoking movie. I guess I'll need some more time to think about all the philosophical aspects of it. Maybe I'll even watch it a second time on the weekend. Dr. Manhattan is a very interesting character. I didn't think I would like him so much. He's a bit reminiscent of Spock, isn't he?

Anyone else seen the trailer yet? I'm not the first here, am I? :D

Holding back from looking at bootlegs until the HD version comes out online on Monday is going to be so, SO hard. :(

Congrats.

It imploded, or put a big, dusty hole in it?
They didn't show the whole explosion in the trailer. It started just the way it looks in the clip I linked to; with a hole that gets bigger and bigger. Everything seemed to be sucked into its core. Then the planet slowly broke apart in numerous pieces. After that they cut away. IIRC, the planet was reddish. So I guess it was Vulcan. (I'm too lazy to look it up in the TrekMovie trailer description.)

The trailer is online, and I don't think it's actually a bootleg - it's on some non-American sites and may have been released "officially" outside the U.S.

Very well-done trailer.

Anybody else notice when Kirk sits in "the chair" it looks like McCoy is kind of incredulously saying "What?!"

Sharr Khan

I noticed that. Perhaps its on "auto pilot"? Or Spock goes out with a bang, though it strikes me as a rather futile attempt to cripple that huge "engine of destruction".

Please don't let his final words be "Time's UP!"
;)

McCoy- we've got no first officer or Captain, what are we going to do

Everyone looks at their shoes.

Kirk- Shotgun!

And so began the journey

KIRK: "Yeah we do."

He sits in the chair.

UHURA (to Chekov): "Man, I saw 'Captain Action's' skinny ass get kicked by a bunch of cadets. We are so fucked!

Curse your good luck 1701, I refuse to read any possible spoilers till I see the trailer on Monday! Where the heck is a time travel machine when you REALLY need it? Quick Does anybody have a bootleg of the trailer?

Wow. I want to cry that was so good.

That is how you make a trailer. I don't think I've ever been so stoked for a Star Trek movie, it looks epic.

And Trek returns from the dead one more time.

I really think the full title should be "Star Trek: You Can't Kill It With A Stick."

No doubt.

Someone needs to lock down JJ Abrams and make him direct Trek movies for the rest of his life. :techman:

Obviously the full title is going to be "Star Trek: The Phantom Menace" given the mysterious nature of Nero and his attack.
