What fun! Some half-wit real estate guy in England, just hit me with 320 copies of the same spam - in less than 30 minutes. 300 of them arrived in the space of 10 minutes alone! Oh joy!
I decided to let my reporter instincts kick in. I found the guy's phone number and even located his house/home office on Google Street View, but perhaps not surprisingly he didn't pick up his phone when I called! Normally I wouldn't do this, but a) it was annoying to encounter this at midnight and even with the spam filter set to max I have no idea what I might wake up to and b) the guy actually appears to be a legit business rather than some anonymous hacker in his mom's basement in Moscow. If I wake up tomorrow to find thousands of emails plugging my in-box, I've already got the local police phone number jotted down. I'll ask them to politely knock on the fellow's door...
Mind you, this morning I actually got a telemarketer calling from India to give me his real name and phone number and he told me how he got my phone number (low-tech - they found my listing in the phone book. Guess who's going unlisted again next week?) So maybe the people doing this crap are getting dumber. I don't know.
So what's the worst spam attack you've ever endured?
Alex
