I was pulling something out of the oven and my hand touched the (activated) broiler coil. Put a real nice, painful, burn on the back of my hand!

What were you cooking?
That sound nasty. Even little burns are really painful.
When my son was 4 years old he set himself on fire after playing with matches (that he found in a neighbours yard on Fireworks Night and then hid them in his room).
I was undressing the baby for a bath when I heard my son scream. I put the baby down on the floor and saw my son running towards me on fire. I managed to smother the flames, and as I had no phone, I wrapped him in a cold wet towel and ran to the neighbours for help.
My son had to have skin grafts and spent his 5th birthday in hospital.
Oven mitts totally rawk.
Oven mitts totally rawk.
I was using oven pads to pull the pan out. The back of hand just happened to touch the coil.In the future, I should just be more aware of that coil.
It doesn't hurt anymore... It's quite red, though. It's interesting, though, what instantly seared skin smells like.
My oven mit pretty much covers my entire forearm. I'm more afraid of accidentally touching the oven door with my leg.
It's handy to have in the home med kit.
Umm -- don't cook in the nude?
