I just burned the heck out of the back of my hand.

I was pulling something out of the oven and my hand touched the (activated) broiler coil. Put a real nice, painful, burn on the back of my hand!

Been there, done that. But Christ, that hurts. Just hold an ice cube on it while you swear loudly.

I once dropped a filter filled with boiled tea leaves on my foot. Terrible second-degree burn. Hurt like hell for a month.

I think everyone has to experience that once in their lifetime. It was nachos and cheese for me.

That sound nasty. Even little burns are really painful.

When my son was 4 years old he set himself on fire after playing with matches (that he found in a neighbours yard on Fireworks Night and then hid them in his room).

I was undressing the baby for a bath when I heard my son scream. I put the baby down on the floor and saw my son running towards me on fire. I managed to smother the flames, and as I had no phone, I wrapped him in a cold wet towel and ran to the neighbours for help.

My son had to have skin grafts and spent his 5th birthday in hospital.

Ouch
Get some Vitamin E capsules and put the liquid on the buen, it will help prevent scaring.
Sister used it as a teen after the iron tipped over on her hand...no sign of it.

and I second the oven mit concept

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! I can't think of anything else to say to that!!!! OMG!!!!!!! How awful!!!!!!

I burnt my hand. It really hurts, but it doesn't hurt enough to keep me from typing about it! :p

Oven mitts totally rawk.

I was using oven pads to pull the pan out. The back of hand just happened to touch the coil. :( In the future, I should just be more aware of that coil. ;)

It doesn't hurt anymore... It's quite red, though. It's interesting, though, what instantly seared skin smells like.

My oven mit pretty much covers my entire forearm. I'm more afraid of accidentally touching the oven door with my leg.

OK, then try this: Oven MITTS totally rawk! Oh, and electric ovens suck ass.

I am sorry, but I should have instructed you to soak your hand in white vinegar. Saturating a paper towel with white vinegar and placing it on the affected area helps as well. It reduces the pain/discomfort and after an hour treatment can be stopped. I have some burn cream at home that contains silver iodine(?) that immediately assuages the pain and is foot for first and second degree burns. It's handy to have in the home med kit.

Umm -- don't cook in the nude?

I once passed the back of my hand through the flame of an oxy-acetylene torch. I had a 3rd degree burn in an area about 1.5 inches in diameter with a thin ring of 2nd degree burn around it. The skin fell off and grew back over about a month. Funny enough, it didn't hurt at all and now there's not even a scar.

The only proper burn I've had was when I somehow managed to touch a 100w lightbulb as a kid. Can't remember exactly how I did it, but I remember it hurting and I remember having a massive blister on my hand.
