I hate Labor Day Weekend

Labor Weekend for me means working long hours and making no money. The Circus always comes to town this weekend, which means that, instead of waiting on my normal bar guests, I end up making lots of chocolate milk for the little kids. If I do get the privilege of waiting on an adult, it's usually one of the circus performers who doesn't speak a word of english. A couple years ago, we actually had a clown come over after one of the shows, sit at the bar, and watch gay porn on his laptop...in his clown costume. Not exactly the kind of thing we want in a family restaurant.

On top of it, I'd really just love to have a job where I don't have to work on Labor Day. It seems to miss the entire point of the holiday. This is one of my life goals: to have a job where I don't have to work on national holidays. I don't think that's asking a lot.

Oh well, just one more day to go until the circus is over (it would probably bother me less if the circus didn't last 5 whole days!).

Ok, that right there is worse than nightmares I've had. I would probably needs therapy after seeing that.

I fucking hate clowns.

Working the holiday weekends at the video store always sucked ass. Crazy crowds of people all day... ugh. This was my first respectable holiday weekend 'cause I work at a credit union now... my very first "sit on your ass at home and get paid for it" holiday!

There's got to be an SNL skit or movie scene in there somewhere.

Classic.

And some people still don't understand why others are terrified of clowns...

I've had the best weekend in a long time, but Labor Day traffic sucks. Nothing like ending a relaxing weekend on the lake by being stuck in hours and hours of traffic.

Sorry, I can't respond to the rest of your post because this is just too funny an image.

I always thought there was so kind of law that stated you're supposed to get paid double-time if you work holidays. My employer, however, only pays time and a half, which is regular OT for holiday hours worked.

I wonder if the clown was aroused at all in that situation or environment.

Oh dear lord! I just had a bad mental image! I just imagined a clown being aroused and honking his big ole red nose!! HONK HONK!!! :nyah:

The Circus always comes to town this weekend,

I took this part literally, thinking you meant a lot of families came in with kids. I never would've thought you meant the actual circus.

I'm so sorry. I used to be a tour guide at the zoo and I worked every freaking holiday and I thought I was going to go completely insane with the crowds.

Clowns scare me :(

But I didn't know you used to be a tour guide at the zoo...

Don't know about the rest of Canada but there have been places around Southern Ontario pissed off at the timing of Labor Day this year. It's later than usually and the kids are having to head back for the start of the academic year so tourism related businesses dependant on the casual labor from the teenagers are annoyed they've lost their workers for one of the busiest weekends of the year.

I had a good labor day weekend. This Sunday my family and I went to my cousin's house for a get together. There were about 20 people there, and we ate my cousin's delicious grilled cheeseburgers and hot dogs, played horse shoes, sat around his patio and lit a bonfire. I fixed his computer (it took 3 hours but I enjoyed it), and I ended the night dozing off under the stars on his back porch. We left their house about 2:00 AM.

Oh, and I hate clowns.

Something wicked this way comes....

I used to be a fundraiser for about a year, and we worked all the holidays including Christmas Eve, New Year's day, Bank Holiday Mondays, all of those. I never did mind though. It was such a fun job, with great colleagues who I used to look forward to seeing. And the work was pretty rewarding, which helped.

I think it's not so much the days you work which upset you, but the job itself. Oh and congrats on having some interest in your resume within a few hours! :D

Nope. There is no federal "holiday pay" law. Some states might have it, but most don't seem to. I have not found a state that does, I'll put it that way.

Some employers do it to be nice, but they are under no obligation to either give you the day off or pay you extra if you do work that day. Only federal employees are subject to that.
