I gave Steve a call

holy crap what did he say? did you ask him about his ornithopter? i wonder how many calls a day he gets.

My wife and I were sitting on the couch watching TV, and that commercial came on, and I said "Is that a real number?"
"I don't know," she said.
"I'm calling it."
"No you're not."
So I got up and grabbed the phone and dialed the number. Steve answers, and I said "Is this Steve?"
He confirms that it is, at which point I was so taken aback by the fact that he actually answered the phone that I really didn't know what to say. I said something lame, like "Hey, your ornithopter is really cool!"
He said, "Thanks!"
And I said, "Well, I won't waste any more of your time, I just wanted to see if this was a real number!"
"Okay!" he says. "Thanks for calling!"

I assume they give the people in these US Cellular commercials a separate phone to answer those calls. I wonder how much they get paid? That would be so awesome.

hell yeah i would do that job. i totally have u.s. cellular, too. i can already picture my commercial. me, surrounded by all my tng paraphernalia and i'll be like, "ask me about my nerd obsessions!"

aww! i love pugs, I want one but my husband and i already have three cats and he's like, "susan....who is going to end up walking the dog when it's snowing out and you don't want to get cold? it will be me." maybe when i live my dream of moving somewhere temperate. :)

Nerdius,

You're in OKC -- ever remember some older gentleman who called all of the local radio stations, went by the name "Big Daddy"? That was his listing in the telephone book, and he always called the morning/afternoon shows to jabber and then asked people to call him if they weren't doing anything. He was retired, bored, and just LOVED talking to people.

You need two. Pugs are better in pairs. My two babies are best friends.

Not familiar with the guy, but maybe my wife is. She's lived here all her life. I moved up here from Lawton about 12 years ago.

Do people usually have to pay for incoming calls in the US?

Not exactly. Cell phone plans usually include a certain number of peak time (usually something like 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM weekdays) minutes. All calls count against those minutes, whether incoming or outgoing. Most carriers also now have unlimited plans, which I assume Steve has.

your babies are too cute! i keep an eye on the humane society website (we're big on adopting pets from them) for pugs. every time i see one come in i come *this* close to adopting him - particularly now since my husband is military and isn't home right now to give his two cents

Sprint has unlimited mobile to mobile, so your minutes would only count against landlines.

I love Ornithopters. You'd need some seriously low gravity to make one work, though.
