I FELT it (British Columbia Earthquake)

I live in CA; i'm all too familiar with quakes.

Me too McBundy..where were you for the Northridge quake?

Rob

Where i am now. In the same house in Norwalk. I was 9. Thus far, it was the most powerful quake i'd ever felt. There are actually cracks in the stucco on the house due to the quake.

I was in Venice beach at a friends house. I thought we were going to die and that an atomic bomb hit.

I have to confess as much as I'm fascinated by earthquakes...I'm also terrified by the aspect of living through or experiencing a major one. Peach Wookie did a good job of listing the ones that we've had, I vaguely remember the 1995 one, the 2001 happened I think at the start of March and I was sleeping during it and got tossed out of my bed.

This brings up a thing....does anyone in BC, Vancouver and the Lower Mainland in particular, remember back in 92 or 93 the big scare about earthquakes? I have this really impactful memory of watching newscasts on BCTV and CBC about the Big One approaching and in school we did drills like every day for a couple of weeks. Does anyone remember this? I seem to be the only one who recalls this?

While I've yet to have one cause significant structural damage to anywhere I've lived (cracks have formed in sidewalks and stucco, and stuff has been knocked off shelves and walls) after going through numerous medium and larger quakes in SoCal my usual reaction is to laugh and think they're fun. It takes a particularly sharp one to even make me head for a doorframe. You get used to it.

I'm in a liquifaction zone on the Newport-Inglewood Fault though, so I may regret saying that one day.
