I change my mind about the skant

Man in blue: "Excuse me dear, but I believe you dropped you pencil."

Skant girl: "Oh thank you, let me bend forward, straight legged and pick it up."

:)

They just don't look very practical do they? Especially as she's working in the same department that has glass floored walkways.

I do love how there are some low camera angles in Encounter that make the whole thing look like a battle between Marina and the camera man over whether they can get an upskirt shot or not. The grim determination on her face as she clasps her knees together whenever she sits down is both comedic and shows why she (sensibly) never wore it again.

I doubt many have problems with women in the skants since they're analogous to the similar uniform design in TOS. (It's worth pointing out that the word skant means just as the name implies it's actually "pants" without an open bottom, the "panty" part is part of the clothing and not actual underwear -as would be exposed in a skirt.

The problem comes with how ridiculous male characters look in the skant (and along with that the early versions of the dress uniform.)

I'm still a bit sorry I didn't pick up a screen-used skant (that sounds a bit wrong) when It's a Wrap was at the Creation Con in Vegas a few years back. Such an odd and awesome piece of Trek history. Oh well.

Oh, and , um, yah, the screencap... That moment of the ep did catch my eye while carefully reviewing the blu ray last night... Audio problems? What audio problems???

:techman:

Did anyone else pick-up on the strange way the crewmember in the blue uniform was standing? If you rotate the image so as that he is upright, you get this.

Also, is this a screen capture of a cut actual scene, or a publicity still? He is looking straight into the camera.

:)

That skant is not much shorter than the TOS miniskirt uniforms.

Look at how many times we saw Uhura's or Chapel's panties.

They still got pencils? :vulcan:

~Looks at your rank~ Rear admiral. :rommie: When it's hot in the ship, she'll have no problem.

Good grief! How is that regulation?!
TOS had 'em, too. So, I see no harm done. If one can't stand it, don't oin Starfleet. ;)

The big red pants (in the British sense) Uhura wore under her mini skirt kept her better covered up than anyone in the skant though.

TrekCore has started posting screencaps from the new TNG Blu-Rays.

I saw this, changed my mind about the skant

Thanks to the HD remaster I just noticed her for the first time, too. A little google reveals that this characters actually pops up all over the series. I was able spot her in almost every season 1 episode I watched the last couple of days. Her name is Diana Giddings and I think it makes for a neat game looking out for her in the background.
