I bought a PS3...now what?

I seem to be having a problem transferring my pictures. When I go under the media server on my PS3, I can view the folders that I have in My Pictures, but it claims that there is nothing in any of the folders.

I also get a DLNA (or something like that) protocol error at the top right corner of my screen.

EDIT: Fixed it!

Well, I've learned how to transfer stuff. Can you actually create slide shows using with PS3, that play automatically and have music in the background? Because I'm hosting our Halloween party this year, and it would be awesome to have something like that going in the background.

You can also stick your stuff onto any third party USB memory device and the PS3 will read it.....plus to play music while looking at pics/surfing just press the PS button in the center of the joypad, go into music , pick the music you, play it and then press the ps button again.

^ I've tried to get my PS3 to read DivX/XviD files directly from a USB thumbstick, but it won't do it. It'll recognise the device on the XMB, but it will show that it's empty.

Yet when I put it into my 360, it's fine. Any ideas?

^ I believe the PS3 requires a certain directory structure. I'm 100% certain what is right now, but I believe for vids you need a PS3 folder and then a VIDEO sub-folder. So you'd place the files inside PS3/VIDEO.

Also, when you're in the XMB, make sure you select "Displays all" or something similar when trying to view the contents of the USB stick.

EDIT: I found some more info.

Move to the USB icon on your xmb list and then press the triangle button, and then pick display all, folder wise i don't use them, i just plop it all onto a mem stick or if its over 4gig just stream it right onto the PS3 HD via my router......only thing that does need to be placed into a folder are those firmware updates that get released from time to time, you can of course download these via the PS3 but that for me anyway is far to slow, i just DL via the PC and stick them onto said stick and away we go.

Return it.

Yeah, then get a 360.

Well I know this article will earn me a lot of anger from the pro-360 crowd, and I'm not posting this to be trolling. This article was sent to me today by a co-worker (who just recently bought a new 360 by the way), and I read some of this stuff and I was like HOLY CRAP!

^^^Well up until 4 weeks ago i would have swore blindly that the overheating issues that were plaguing some 360 were or would not hit everybody, but then my 2 1/2 year old prized and cared for like a new born baby 360 went tits up with two reds lights, a bit of research revealed that this fault is also caused by overheating within the 360, and to be honest if i can get a faulty overheating 360 then anybody can get one.

Of course MS have covered everybody that gets 3 RROD up until 2010, but what about those who are getting 2 RROD that are also caused by overheating or those 360s that just die, seems a bit strange to cover one design causing fault and not the others when nearly all of the 360 faults can be traced to overheating, plus MS were fitting extra heatsinks into faulty 360 to stop overheating, should MS not have recalled all 360's at the time and replaced them all with the new heatsink instead if waiting too see if they die or not.

Shame really, i was very very happy with my 360, i had happily spent a fortune on it,games, peripherals, DLC, arcade games, gold sub........all now out the window due to MS only covering one overheating issue, but i am more pissed at the fact that MS wanted me to pay £70 to repair my old HDMIless 20gig 360 fixed.........Yeah Right.

You see that's exactly how I felt. I really like the features of the 360, and I'm sure based on some of my cynical comments here, people think I'm anti-360. And I'm really not, I'm just really disgusted with MSFT for rushing this thing to the market before it was ready and not stepping up to the plate sooner to address the issue when they KNEW there was a problem.

At one point I actually had two working 360's and I recently sold both of them and just decided to get out of the dual console market. (Opps, that's a bit of lie, I still have a Wii collecting dust.) I have a PS3 that I bought early on primarily as a blu-ray player and I'm come to discover that one console is enough. Sure I'll miss some 360 exclusives, but I'm not going to miss out on any gaming time as I already have more games than what I have time to play as it is now.

For those of you who have a 360, I'm sure you feel the same way and I don't blame you at all. Other than my disdain for the way MSFT handled this intially, I don't really feel that passionate one way or another about either console.

What i miss most from XBlive and the 360 is private chat, i could chat to family /friends being it in or out of a game, or going from game to game, PSN definitely 110% needs a private chat function like that.

Oh yeah, I will give the 360 credit where credit is due. Their interface and online component is head and shoulders above the PS3. There's no doubt about that. I also feel like their controller is superior in some ways.

It's just too bad they didn't get the bugs worked out BEFORE bringing it to market.
