I am so depressed

"A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens.

The Rumpole books by John Mortimer.

The Hoka books by Poul Anderson and Gordon R. Dickson.

"Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams which, if nothing else, has a character who feels the way you do right now. (Marvin.)

So you're right about Marvin, but I wouldn't exactly be suggesting Hitchhiker's Guide to someone who wants feel-good literature...Mostly Harmless is about as anti-feel-good-literature as you can get, I think.
