Generally animated hsows are more profitable on a return-on-cost basis.
No physical sets, location shoots, stunt units, wardrobe, or expensive sci-fi VFX pipelines. Lower Decks’ own production team described animation as giving them far more freedom to depict worlds and creatures that would be expensive in live action.
...in both Futurama and LD the cancellations were a result of poor executive thinking. Scheduling issues for the former and the window-licking idiocy at paramount for the latter (they never actually published a reason).
