I have just watched the girlfriend read Fall of Hyperion, and again reminded myself how incredibly awesome the Hyperion books are. Then I clicked through the internets, and found some old posts saying Bradley Cooper is writing a screenplay (
) or that the guy from Day the Earth Stood Still remake is directing. So is anything coming out of anything?
Also is a Hyperion movie doable AT ALL? The stories in the first one, the 8 or so different threads in the second one, then the huge timejump between the second and the third, also the large number of characters and complex plots are all things that make this story unfilmable on any smaller scale than say LOTR. (Hell, they tried Golden Compass, which is way less complex than Hyperion, and see how that turned out)
A few years back I would have wished for a Dune-style miniseries, but nowadays I'm more inclined to wish for a Game of Thrones style 10 eps cable series (1 season/book). GoT already does the "only use certain actors for certain episodes" thing, has a relatively huge budget, etc. Hyperion even has a few "adult parts" that can be spiced up to HBO level without destroying the story... After all the historical and fantasy series recently, is a big budget scifi series doable?
