Gary Cole is best known to genre fans as Captain Matthew Gideon in Crusade-- or perhaps as the evil sheriff in American Gothic-- but he has a long history of work in Fantasy & Science Fiction. One of his earliest appearances was in "Her Pilgrim Soul," one of the most acclaimed episodes of the mid-80s Twilight Zone revival. Since then, among much mainstream work, he has appeared in the Twilight Zone Lost Classics, American Gothic, The Outer Limits, From The Earth To The Moon, Crusade and Supernatural. He has also done quite a bit of voice work, most notably in Kim Possible and Harvey Birdman. He also played Mr Brady in three Brady Bunch parodies.

Gary was born in Park Ridge, Illinois, on September 20, 1956. He got started in acting in a high school production of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, playing Snoopy (hard to imagine). He then majored in acting (alongside John Malkovitch) at Illinois State University. He has appeared in a number of theatrical plays in both New York and Chicago.

He has been married to Teddi Sidall since March 8, 1992. He has one child, Mary, who suffers from autism. :( Since her birth, he has been active in in a number of charities supporting autism research and treatment. Mary is now sixteen and doing very well.

Gary specializes in characters that are dry, sarcastic or simply ironic-- but they always have panache.

Too much hair!
*tosses papers in the air and runs away screaming*

Seriously, there isn't one good hairstyle in the bunch. *shudder*

Hm. I'll have to go with "meh" on this one. I will always see him as Sheriff Buck, who, while being very cool, still freaks me the hell out.

Don't tell me that you hate too much hair!!!! :guffaw:

Did you know? I once had afro hair! It grows up to about 20 inches long..way, way, way longer than his hair!!

A little surprised to see Captain Gideon/Sheriff Buck when I opened this thread. Realised I was thinking of Gary Coleman.

Not the most handsome man in the world (its the nose). Makes up for it in voice and sheer presence. A highly underused actor. Thumbs up.:techman:

Probably the first thing I saw him in was Crusade. (followed by West Wing as "Bingo" Bob or Office Space)

I'd like to see him in more shows/films:)

Not the conventional leading man type, but an interesting actor, and that always motivates me to vote thumbs up in polls like this.

I was so tempted.... :D

The tally so far...

- 6 guys voted and each one voted thumbs up.

- 4 women voted and each one voted "meh" or thumbs down.
Once again I fail at being a woman or gay. :(

Uh oh...

Hey, Gary has 8 votes thumbs up and only 3 for thumbs down. That's pretty good. So guys think he's cool and women, well, not so much. That's OK.

Besides, I can't fire a volunteer.

Heh. It's kind of amusing that the Guy Votes are propping him up. I think we're seeing the Bruce Campbell Factor at work. :D
