Gary Cole is best known to genre fans as Captain Matthew Gideon in Crusade-- or perhaps as the evil sheriff in American Gothic-- but he has a long history of work in Fantasy & Science Fiction. One of his earliest appearances was in "Her Pilgrim Soul," one of the most acclaimed episodes of the mid-80s Twilight Zone revival. Since then, among much mainstream work, he has appeared in the Twilight Zone Lost Classics, American Gothic, The Outer Limits, From The Earth To The Moon, Crusade and Supernatural. He has also done quite a bit of voice work, most notably in Kim Possible and Harvey Birdman. He also played Mr Brady in three Brady Bunch parodies.
Gary was born in Park Ridge, Illinois, on September 20, 1956. He got started in acting in a high school production of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, playing Snoopy (hard to imagine). He then majored in acting (alongside John Malkovitch) at Illinois State University. He has appeared in a number of theatrical plays in both New York and Chicago.
He has been married to Teddi Sidall since March 8, 1992. He has one child, Mary, who suffers from autism.
Since her birth, he has been active in in a number of charities supporting autism research and treatment. Mary is now sixteen and doing very well.
Gary specializes in characters that are dry, sarcastic or simply ironic-- but they always have panache.
