Mark Goddard is best known for his role as Major Don West, the tough-yet-goodhearted pilot of the Jupiter II on the original Lost In Space (and eternal nemesis of Dr Smith). He was another hero of my young childhood, but where Professor Robinson was a father figure, Major West was more of an older brother or uncle. He was the young, single adventurer who was romancing the cute blonde.

He’s actually a local guy, born in Lowell on July 24, 1936, as Charles Goddard (and as a kid I thought it was very cool that a guy on a sci fi show was named Goddard–- and he is in fact distantly related to Robert Goddard :D), but grew up in Scituate. Receiving encouragement from the head of the drama society at Holy Cross, Mark went on to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan. He also has a Masters Degree in Education from Bridgewater State College and during his acting career he has worked with needy children, from Head Start programs in California to Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

He is currently living down the Cape and working at the Chamberlain School, a residential facility for students with behavioral. He doesn’t just play a hero; he is a hero. :bolian:

Thumbs up. :bolian:

Not the most gorgeous guy in the world IMO but good looking and sexy nonetheless.

Handsome guy. Thumbs up. I wonder when that ShoreLeave photo was taken. He's still a looker in later years.

Yes, he has definitely aged well. He looked good in his LIS movie cameo, too.

Interesting. As predicted, he has a much higher Thumbs Up percentage than Guy Williams; and yet he has less than half the volume of Voters. I have no idea what that means. :rommie:
