How Would You Rewrite The Search II

For me, a change to Search I. I would have like to have seen the Defiant win the battle but suffer damage and trudge on to the FHP w/out a cloak.

I would have like to see some negotiations between Sisko and the Founders and of course the Founders out and out rejecting all Fed inquiries to navigate beyond the wormhole.

I'll probably be skewered for this, but I wouldn't have minded seeing Picard tag along for some negotiating clout. Thoughts?

Part one is really well done. I'm not sure what the answer is though as part two really needs gutting. I suppose remove the stupid plot that reveals that everything that just happened was a dream, but of course keep the Odo stuff and the Founder/Changeling reveal. I don't know what the main plot could be for Sisko and co. though.

I was thinking of prison escape or something that involved some sort of need to get to the Founders, but that's about as lame as it's all in your head.

Explain what happened to Subcommander T'Rul (Martha Hackett) when the U.S.S. Defiant returned to Deep Space 9.

Please no Picard. I love TNG, but I can't stand why a lot of suggestions of fans to 'improve' DS9 is by trowing in some TNG characters. The show was called DS9, not TNG part 2.

Biggest rewrite: Odo's people are not the founders. ODO DOES NOT FIND HIS PEOPLE! Grrr.

I'm sorry, but Odo finding his people was the same as giving Data emotions: you destroy the central drive and definition of the character.

I loved the idea of the DOminion, but they never fleshed it out beyond the Jem Haddar, Vorta, and FOunders. The Dominion was supposed to be a massive inter-planetary alliance. AN EVIL, RUTHLESS FEDERATION. I'd have rewritten part 2 to btter develop and reflect the idea that in the gamma quadrant there's a ruthless federation of planets that rivals our beloved Federation.

NO MIND GAMES! ENough with the "It was all a dream/holodeck/alien telepath" stuff. Make what happens matter by making it real.

Also, don't paint the Dominion as such a 1 note evil entity. By having all the races genetically engineered slaves, you eliminate any sense that these are real people who made real choices. Explore instead the ideas behind this ruthless, totalitarian Federation.

For me, Deep Space Nine died with the Search Part 2. After that, it was Star Trek: War with Evil, not Deep Space Nine. The thrilling space battles? Not what Star Trek is about for me. Give me ideas and discussion any day.
