TrekMovie recently posted a review of the widely-panned TOS outing "The Way to Eden" on their TOS-Remastered blog.
TrekMovie's crew did a nice screen capture of something that TOS-R watchers have been waiting for. Everyone was eagerly anticipating what the newly remastered Space Cruiser Aurora, Dr. Severn's hippie dippie getaway ship, bound for "Eden" or bust, would look like. It turns out to be the same ship (or, at least, the same shape) as the one used by the Denevan rebel in "Operation: Annihilate!" as well as Harry Mudd's wives-4-sale wheels in "Mudd's Women", instead of the busier design seen in "Is There In Truth No Beauty?", so that question has now been answered.
Depending on how you feel about these TOS-R substitute ships, you may either (a: love 'em, (b: hate 'em, or (c at least view them as a step up from the originals. For these three TOS-R eps, I chose "c". It's a neat design, looks just a little too TNGish for my taste, but definitely better than the original Aurora.
If I had designed the Aurora for TOS-R, I might've used the same basic design, but I would've done away with the funny curved nacelle pylons, maybe replacing them with NX-Alpha-style wings. I hope nobody throws anything at me for saying this, but the remastered Aurora made me think of the Jupiter II. I don't have a problem with the teardrop forward hull, but I think it would be neat to see the aft part have a separation line so that it could be a more cylindrical (NX-Alpha-style) "warp core" module. The module could separate from the forward habitat, much as Spock's Vulcan shuttle separated from its warpsled.
But enough of that: how do you feel about the remastered Aurora? If you could design such a vessel for TOS-R, what would you make it look like?
