I think it was intimately stupid to have an actor that has been behind so much rubber in so many many many episodes of Star Trek to be exploited for my entertainment without a lick of cunning, that instead of the invention of another forgettable generic character, that Endgame could have seen the return of any of his previous roles previously (andthe opposite of previously in one case.) held by the actor Vaughn Armstrong for the finale episode of Voyager to celebrate the history of the show and franchise.
Who gives a damn about Korath?
Lets see? Who else has he been and how might they have been used int he situation?
Seskal. he played a Cardassian officer for two episodes of DS9 who's name seems to the masculization of "Seska" which at a stretch might have made him OUR Seska's father. Someone on the DS9 staff was having a bit of a laugh and possibly was thinking this when they named the character, but a meeting between Seska's pappy and Chakotay or Janeway would have been awesome, considering she should have met with the families of all the crewmen who died.
Korris A klingon Captain not seen since the first season of TNG, certainly interchangeable with Korath. You'd have to wonder if Korris wasn't used in an earlier draft if they knew Vaughn was available?
Alpha Hirogen (From Flesh and blood) didn't he die? Ghost?
Vidiian Captain from Fury retroactively set on day 56 in the DQ. I think he also died. Ghost?
2 of Nine from Survival Instinct. This bugger holds grudges.
Admiral Maximillian Forrest from Enterprise. If they had cast him yet, If they were thinking about casting him in Broken Bow, if they were the smallest nudge pregnant with contemplation about casting him in Enterprise, they could have nabbed some free publicity for the new show by having Forrest somehow be entwined in this last adventure of Vopyagers even if separated by 200 years or so.
And my personal favourite
TELEK RIMOR from Eye of the Needle. For fracks sake! Sure he died 3 years before Voyager set off on it's mission to reign in the Indian, but he held personal messages for families of Voyagers crew in safe keeping for 20 years, that it would have been amusing to see some side of that and it's failure to save the day especially after that line from "somewhere" "The Romulans have been interested in Voyager" that the Romulans sat on the information they had for one reason of another. BAH!
